It is not as simple as that mate the up keep of the pitch is not just seed and water , in grounds like ours due to the postition of the pitch and stands it needs more maintenance and more use of technology which we dont have the funds for
That's right. I now recall reading that Watford's pitch is some kind of hybrid of natural and artificial grass. The way to go, apparently, but I'm sure it costs.

Which is what we used to have...
I don't think Hamer is having a go at anyone in particular, besides if the pitch is crap because TJ cut the budget, then surely that's a by product of the financial issues last summer rather than a criticism of Paddy.
At the end of the day, the pitch is currently in it's worst condition since we went back in 1992, thankfully we've got no midweek games coming up, as until it warms up it's only going to get worse.

we had a hybrid pitch? really, are you sure? Not that I wish to cast doubt on your knowledge, but, well, what happened to the artificial bits then? Do you still have to a renew such a hybrid pitch each season? I am just interested in how such things work.
The Valley has never had a hybrid/desso pitch which I've said in a previous post costs with drainage and undersoil heating a million pounds to install. What The Valley used to have was a months more preperation time, proper covers, The whale/blotter which soaked up all the surface water and 8 less games. Take all that away, throw in some shit weather and the pitch will be bad. Some warmer weather will help considerably !
Paddy has done a cracking job for years so he isn't the problem.
Has anyone suggested he is the problem?
Hamer by pretty strong implication in my opinion.
........“Watford was exceptional - especially considering they play rugby and football on it. It makes you wonder why ours is so terrible when it only has one game on it every two weeks. “Our groundsman won’t be too happy with what I’ve said - but it is something that needs to be addressed."..........

Not sure that any of us can really make that call one way or the other to be honest. A bit like when some punter announced that Chappie was doing a crap job, it's based entirely on guesswork. Would be interesting to compare the Valley pitch with the far more heavily used Sparrows Lane facilities.
Correcting my previous comment, what the Valley pitch had was Fibresand laid underneath it, which helped strengthen it. Do we still have this, or was this chopped after we left the PL?
Alongside standard pitch reconstruction and renovation, we specialise in the use and application of Fibresand and Fibrelastic pitch reinforcement and have an extensive range of modern machinery and equipment associated with the management of fibre reinforced pitches.
Fibresand and Fibrelastic are reinforced silica sand products that provide extra stability to the turf surface. Polypropylene fibres (and elastic fibres for Fibrelastic) are added in a random distribution throughout the sand; this produces a very cohesive material. This in turn reinforces the rootzone, resulting in a tighter surface that is more resistant to divots. .
