  • I'm not a lover of our website , isn't it done on a contract basis , and isn't the contract coming up for renewal soon, someone on here must have the inside track?
  • 7 year contract, I believe ....signed about 3 years ago?

  • Comes from the same IT toilet as Player...

  • Comes from the same IT toilet as Plaaayer...

Ok his computer might not be up to much but he's not too bad a bloke otherwise.....

  • Come on CAS Trust....sort it out! ;0)
  • £40k. That's scandalous.

Having said that if there are 40
Clubs in the football league using it it works out at £1k for each club. Over a ten month season that's only £100 a month and at £5 a month for the crappy commentary each club would only need 20 subscribers to pay for it.

I still think that at £40k to design a site you'd expect that chap doing it to come to the meeting wearing a handkerchief over his nose and mouth and insist on being called Mr Turpin!

Hmm...I could tell you about a website that cost way more than ten times that. And it's properly broken! 40k for a bespoke site that works? Result!
  • It must be possible to design and implement a website for a lot less as there are many businesses that clearly couldn't afford to spend that kind of money, but still seem to have a site.
  • Trying to read the Birmingham City review on the website and I can't scroll onto the next page because the button appears to be hidden behind the related articles list!
  • Now keeps throwing up adobe flash error messages for me. No other site I visit does that. This is what pops up in a separate window:

SecurityError: Error #2122: Security sandbox violation: Loader.content: http://www.player.cafc.co.uk/ptvFlash/FLi/unifiedplayer/final/UnifiedPlayer.swf cannot access http://www.player.afcb.co.uk/javaImages/58/b6/0,,10324~11646552,00.jpeg. • I looked the other day and they had all the Saturday fixtures as 7.45pm KO and all the weekday ones as 3pm.

  • The issue has never been the cost of an independent website per se. The Football League structured the royalties on video of matches in such a way that it was punitive to maintain an independent site and make your own arrangements.

The club could cope with that while it was in the Championship because clubs outside the FLi set-up at that level got 1/24th share of 80 per cent of the external internet fees, but that dropped to the square root of nothing in League One.

Clubs inside FLi got a share of the fees on the basis of traffic and Player subscriptions. As we would out-perform a lot of the lower league clubs that was advantageous financially at a time the club was skint. There are also no hosting fees.

I've always been of the view the FLi is rubbish and we fought as big a rearguard action inside the club as we could, especially because we knew we would be forced to sign up to 2017, but the financial issue won out.
