Conceding In Stoppage Time

Just came across this interesting fact on the BBC on the Crystal Palace v Charlton Preview:

• Chris Powell's side have not managed to score a Championship goal in stoppage-time this season, but they have conceded an unsurpassed six in added time.

Feels like it has happened to us so many times over the years, of course it happens to every team now and then but seems quite particular with us. Also when we conceded against Blackpool it cost me £50! How they couldn't hold on for just another damn added minute!

Comments

  • Cost me 90!
  • We conceded 2 in stoppage time in one game, can't be many teams who've done that
  • I don't think many of the goals actually changed the result of the game did they? I mean in terms of win, draw or loss
  • Powell knows that football is a 90 minute game.

Unfortunately no one seems to have told him about Added Time, as the team switch off yet again.

    ;o)
  • We do have a habit of letting in consolation goals.

We have lost 5 points (Birmingham A, Sheffield Wed H) due to goals in added-on time.

We have lost 7 points (Birmingham A, Huddersfield H, Sheffield Wed H) due to goals from 80 minutes onwards.

10 goals conceded from 80 onwards in all, compared to 3 scored

In contrast, no goal that we have scored after 80 minutes has had any direct points effect.

There is a definite issue here, whether it's concentration, fitness or sitting too deep (or a mixture of all of them).
  • Blackpools goal won me 90 sqid so won't complain that's Nathan!
  • So if we'd not conceded in the last 10 minutes for all those games we would be siting 3rd in the table!
  • Neither of the Wendy goals were in stoppage time.
  • I think the only stoppage time goal which cost us points was at Birmingham and lost 2 points

    Correct.
  • Sorry to the bump this guys, but think there is definitely an issue that needs addressing because it's simply become 'the normal' now. On Saturday after their goal went in I simply turned to my dad and said 'that's more like it', wasn't even angry as I had mentally prepared myself for it.
  • Take a yellow.
  • Everyone seems to forget what happened against Cardiff. Yes we won 5-4 but we very nearly threw a 5-2 lead away.

Do you think it is possible that we haven't worked out how to play against a team which is desperate and has decided to take risks and go for broke? The figures would suggest this is the case.
  • I totally lost it when Brum scored.

Apologies to anyone at the back of K-block who had to endure my ranting.

Why can't we just keep it in the corner and run the clock down like every other team?

  • Problem is we play too deep .
We invite teams to.attack us it has now become endemic
CP needs to somehow get them to stop panic
