Kevin Phillips

I see tomorrow we have got to face the wily old fox again.Although we kept him relatively quiet last time,he always makes me nervous when you see him moving into the box.If subbed,I bet he does not get applauded this time!

  • I think it was discussed in another thread how much love lots of Addicks have for this man despite not playing for us, but not for two hours at 3pm tomorrow !
  • I'm not sure we can claim to have kept him completely quiet, since he missed a half open goal from inside the 6 yard box in the first 5 minutes.

I would give him a clap. One of the best English strikers of the last 20 years, and involved in our greatest ever game.
  • Massive resepect for him. Great player and good professional. Hope he is an unused sub tomorrow though!!
  • Totally agree guys.He deserves all the plaudits and credit he gets.
  • Great professional, always had the same feeling about Clive Mendonca too, when he used to play against us.
  • I really hope he's not fully fit. If he is.....I can see a 90th min winner from him.
  • Doubt he will start.
  • What must the palarse fans be thinking ?
Sold 20 year old Zaha for £10m and bought his dad in on loan
  • Good signing for them, he is one of the best at finding spaces and getting in goal scoring positions.

Clapped him off the other week but he's Palace now...
  • Massive resepect for him. Great player and good professional. Hope he is an unused sub tomorrow though!!

I hope he's a used sub - in the 'we're 4-0 down so let's throw on all our strikers' kind of way. If he's unused, they're probably not losing!

    Good point KKB.

They're probably thinking "fantastic" as they now have two good strikers for the rest of the season.

Sold Zaha - took the money and kept him for the season -AND signed his dad !!

Birmingham pulled the same trick with Butland, whereas we got completelty stuffed with Shelvey not being able to play for us, and missing the playoffs ...
  • Correction, two wily old foxes when you add Ian Holloway.
  • anyone know where the answers to the 'Valley Whispers' part of the matchday programme are ??
in the last programme it said
" Which senior Charlton professional- a boyhood Sunderland fan-continued his collection of Kevin Phillips' shirts when he gathered the veteran striker's jersey following the home game against Blackpool on January 12th"

will whoever it is do it tomorrow !

aaaaah i was thinking who's the norverner ... for some reason i thought matt taylor but i have no idea where he is from

although Cook wouldn't be considered a senior Charlton professional would he
  • Great signing wish we could have got him

  • Doesn't he have a habit of scoring on his debut for whoever he joins, like Jimmy Greaves used to?
  • He can score tomorrow as long as its a consolation goal.
  • Setting myself up for a fall i know but rather he played than Murray at this stage in their respective careers.
  • Only a couple of years younger than Paul Kitson, we should have re-signed Kitson yesterday just for tomorrow's match :)

Sorry to side track this thread but it does involve players shirts.
At one time I worked with Dave Kitsons dad Kevin who told me that when he played for C--------. UT d. there was a couple of young fans who idolised dave and he told them at the last game of the season he would give them a piece of kit each. At the final whistle of the final game one fan got his boots the other his shirt when he got to the dressing room dave was asked where his shirt was he explained the situation at this point a member of staff (not player) rushed out and retrieved the shirt from the boy as he was leaving the ground.
I do know that some clubs have to watch every penny but some times it is a very sh-tty game.
  • Huge amount of respect for the player, but I thought this might be near the end for him when he played against us a few weeks ago. Still dangerous, in terms of the quality he has, but not the player he was. I wouldn't have been particularly excited if we had signed him.
  • I generally think he has been cack this season !
And should have scored in the first 5 minutes against us at home .
    Do like the guy thoe

Great pro, let himself down going to the Nigel's though!!
  • Really wished we had signed him at some point.

Past his prime but still got it about him. Comes across as a decent bloke too and turned my stomach seeing him in the moody Barcelona strip today.
