Are City there for the taking?

Did anyone see the Blackburn/City game in the FAC today? It was not on TV down here but from what I have read City were terrible and there are widespread rumors that their is a massive split in their squad between the UK/Irish and foreign players. It also appears that the fans are now starting to get on Pearce's back and that he could he headed for the boot.
Bearing in mind that City have got to play Chelsea at home on Wednesday and then have away games at Boro and Newcastle before we go there on Good Friday who reckons that this lot are going to be ripe for the taking if we can put in the type of performance we put in at Pompey and Bolton?
Also, if they did sack Pearce, which would seem a crazy move to me, then who on earth is out there that could replace him? I can't think of anyone at all.

  • City were absolutely abject - no bite upfront, chaotic at the back & lightweight in midfield. As to who could replace Pearce - christ knows - maybe Willie Donachie?!!!
  • Thanks Oakster, I was very curious to see how they were playing because from some reports they are looking like a complete shambles which would be very handy from our point of view! If they are in freefall and they DO sack Pearce then they would be right in the cart because they can't bring anyone else in on the playing front. Their game against Chelsea is a massive, massive game because if they lose that then they are under even more pressure for their away games.

We need to concentrate on winning OUR games, starting with Newcastle.

If we don't manage to win our games it won't matter what City or anybody else do or don't do.
  • Very true Len, but it would be nice if City went on a "Les Reed" type run which might mean we can stay up with 30 points!!!
  • Too right Len our players have got to wake up from the start of matches. Those players know who they are.
  • In much the same way as when we played West ham the other week, i think if we score first at City it could be game over. They have no fight in them. They were terrible yesterday, don't think they had a shot on target, booed off yesterday, chants of you're not fit to wear the shirt, and Barton apparently said in an interview before the game that he feels 5 or 6 of his team mates just don't care which is hardly going to do morale any good!

sure City are the team we're most likely catch, but we just need concentrate on winning our games one at a time. It'd be a bad mentality if we start relying others to freefall before we have put a run together ...
... go on about it too much and they'll do Chelsea!
  • that girl crying in the crowd! honestly, embarrassing love... mind you she then went on to give a good rendition of 2your not fit to wear the shirt"! nice one Barton throwing his shirt into the crowd.

    they were poor.
  • did you see the abuse Barton was getting off his own when he did through the shirt in ?

not a happy camp at all, though this might not work in our favour. Yesterday could very much be the day everything come to a head for City, and you generally get two reactions to that.

lets hope for our sake its a negative one.
  • did they have the skycam on her?!

  • Cant see them turning it around wednesday night against Chelsea.. yeeha. shall be watching that one.

i kind of read it that he probably thought well if im not fit to wear the shirt then you fookers can have it!! yes they were giving him dogs which was a bit unfair but there you go.
  • they were giving him dogs??? aye????
  • abuse. dogs abuse.
  • oh right, never heard of that sayin! I should get myself up to date with the new words on the block!

I think you are right, but I am confident we have a better team than them, if can get get above them I think we will stay there.

If we can get two wins and a draw from the next three I reckon we should be set up to survive.

I think our biggest worry is we have four irreplacable players - Thatcher, Young, Song and Bent - we need them fit until for the next six games.
  • Seem to remember we hit rock bottom at home to Wycombe where the fans finally lost the plot with the players. A new manager was quickly installed in our case ready for the transfer window. City do not have that luxury. City may well have reached their low point now which may well mean the only way is up. Unless of course they sack their manager which in my opinion would finish them.

Very true. Also on the basis of our defending at Watford i'd like to see both Diawara and Bougherra fit too. If we can get a settled side it could just keep us up.
  • Chris - I'd prefer that pairing too, not that we've seen much of Bougherra yet - but one of them with HH or the Elk hopefully isn't the end of the world, despite the Elk and Fortune horror show at Watford!

I think Barton throwing his shirt into the crowd was in direct result of the 'you're not fit to wear the shirt' chant. He then promptly went on to show them his behind as he walked away.

Don't think he'll be winning any Player of the Year awards after that little show.

& that women was very very scary!!!!!!

  • did he actually show his arse tho? i thought he just adjusted his wasit band but wanted it look like he was going to do another mooney! thought it was funny.

she looked like a nutter... crying like that she was sobbing. embarrassing.
  • he did what he did last time, just a little show to let them know what he thought. You could see the City fans calling him a w' anchor as he did it.

i will never ever cry at a football match.................i do NOT want to be remembered for blubbing on SSN!!!!
  • I'd like to change my vote, I think your going to stay up!
After watching citeh yesterday I just cannot see them scoring a goal. They look completely shot and with all this very public in fighting. There is clearly trouble at mill!

Not sure if anyone else heard it, but with 20 minutes left the city fans were clearly singing " what the F%@K is going on".

Watford look a better team than City.
  • hate to be the voice of pessimism but the bookies still very strongly have us to go down

    CAFC 1/5 to be relegated
    MCFC 6/1 to be relegated
  • should get on City really at that price - if we win on Sunday, those odss will narrow a lot.
  • They've moved down from 13/1 10 days ago but still worth backing them down / us to stay up if you think we're up for it!

Get on now...they (City) play Chelsea tomorrow night, that's one of their two games in hand over us.
