Kermo interview

  • I'm all for people copy and pasting story's from the News shopper so I don't have to visit that ghastly web site.
    Well done Talal

    This.
  • It is a courtesy thing more than a telling off. I've never made any secret about the reason I post the links on here.

By copying and pasting the contents that kind of defeats the point of me posting the link in the first place.

But as renowned NS critics Beds and cafctom say that fact alone will probably make their day! : )

Unfortunately there is nothing I can do about the ads or the design of the website other than advise the best way to turn down the ad is to enable the cookies.

I've also done this on my mobile and it did work on that as well.
  • I have to stick up for News Shopper here, local papers like that are doing it incredibly tough already and the only hope they have of surviving is by showing advertisers that they have a strong online presence.

This is obviously measured in site visits and story views, something tangible that they can show advertisers, if people are cutting and pasting stories and not visiting the site then the reporter has effectively wasted his time because the site won't generate the same traffic.

I very much appreciate the work that News Shopper puts in covering the club, there is precious little else in the way of coverage out there so I would urge people to do the right thing and visit the main site or we might lose the coverage all together.

In some ways its a bit like the HMV - Amazon debate, use it or you're going to lose it.
  • Well put Ormy
  • i don't live in the NS local area, can someone please tell me why it gets so many negative comments on here? is the state of the website or have they done something I've missed?

This other than the part about NS stopping coverage of Charlton - not a chance of that while I'm working there.

I appreciate the NS is not everyone's favourite. All I can say is don't click on the links I post if you feel that way.
  • Absolutely right Ormy. We should appreciate any coverage of CAFC. It keeps us informed and we pay diddle. Admittedly the ads are a pain but it doesn't take long to scan an article.
  • The problem is the NS website design - and the problems it gives my laptop.

No one has criticised the content of the Kermo article (IMO a very good read, thanks Talal).

If the website was more friendly, I would be very happy to click the link.
And I've no doubt so would many others.

Sounds like you might have a Flash problem?

Excuse me - how am I a renowned critic? If anything I was sticking up for you by suggesting that people stop making excuses and click the links.

I access your site every time you post a link here and I don't recall complaining about the ads or the sound on there once. I've no problem with the News Shopper whatsoever.

Older laptop, Ormy ..... perhaps bit underpowered to cope with over active websites.
It's absolutely fine on most sites.

The NS site always gives me problems - so now I avoid it.

Right, I have that problem with one of the older machines that the kids use, struggles with the 'busier' sites that have lots of ads/graphics.
  • As I've said before, I use Firefox with adblock and have no such issues with ads or videos playing. I'm sure there's plenty of similar programs for different browsers............
  • I tend to prefer noscript, but it has the same effect. Needs a bit of tweaking when you first visit a site to determine which bits you actually need and which are just powering annoying ads and such, but it stops all sort of web annoyances. My PC is ancient (5 years old next month) but has no problems with the NS site at all.
  • Oggy what browser do you use?

Oggy what browser do you use?

Hello Stu - I used Firefox for a number of years, but the last few weeks have been using GoogleChrome.

Am using an ancient but reliable 2005 HP business edition laptop, which has been upgraded over the years to 1.5 gig RAM, and much of my lesser used files, music, photos etc now stored on an external hard drive only connected when needed.

I appreciate it's an old machine and underpowered by today's requirements.

I rarely get trouble when accessing sites - but NS's site always causes problems and freezes my machine.
