Does anybody like the handshakes ?

Reading another thread, I was reminded just how much I miss the way in which the players used to come on at the start of the game. First out came the away team with a varying response according to how many they brought with them. Then the Robin, and out came the Addicks to a decent roar. That always got the atmosphere started right from the off. What is the point of pretending that football is a game for sporting Gentlemen ? Shake hands one minute, and diving in the box the next. Elbows flailing, hassling the Referee, anything goes. Obviously those running the game will not change it, but i would love to see it done the old way just one more time and perhaps they would see what we are missing.

Agree, Granpa ........ before the match, all this false handshaking is just an empty charade.

Need only the 2 skippers to shake hands with each other and the ref on the centre spot, when the coin is tossed before the game.
    As tradition dictates.

The time for handshaking is after the match has been played.

  • a premiership thing, from memory it's only been in the football league for a few seasons who followed suit? (I could be wrong), would happily do away with it.
  • Thanks @Granpa that was I who brought it up originally, just reminds me of being a kid and the excitement building at 2.55pm!

How far down the Pyramid does it go? Do they do it in the Blue Square Prem for instance?
  • no but i like milkshakes, especially banana flavour.
  • Silly and pointless lets get rid of them
  • Dont think anyone likes it.probably not the players as most of them shake hands afterwards.
  • Watching the handshakes at the beginning feels as good as watching us win a trophy.

  • Where do find these from JT. Quality lol
  • Hull v wendies game cracked me up the other day.

Hull brang a sub on and as the 4th offical or lino put his hand out to stop the sub going on, the hull player went to shake it.
  • have to agree with you Grandpa - leave the handshakes to the end of the match when its all done & dusted.

I used to like it when the players would just run out in no particular order and having to guess who would be out next as there would have been no prior team announcmnets and you would only know the team line-ups when all 11 were out on the pitch !!

    jumpers for goalposts !!
  • No, don't like the handshakes. After opposition come out, our mascots should follow. Not the cat and dog but a robin and a haddock.
  • Yes, bring back the robin !
  • Went to a blue square game a few weeks ago... no handshakes and not even a hint of atmosphere. I don't think there was a handshake at the mk dons game last season. To be fair i was to concerned about the electric atmosphere from the mk fans packed into their wonderful stadium
