Blackburn Weather

In the last four seasons prior to this current one we have had games called off because of freezing weather. Home games with Cardiff (08/09) , Hartlepool (09/10), Southampton (10/11) (Boxing Day) & Rochdale (11/12) and away games at Walsall (09/10), Rochdale (10/11) (twice), Hartlepool (10/11) & Chesterfield (11/12). All the grounds these games were meant to take place do not have undersoil heating. However for this coming Saturday Blackburn do have undersoil heating. So as long as it don't rain to waterlog the pitch and the heating is on the pitch should be playable on Saturday. The main worry is probably more the surrounding areas around the ground don't get too snowed up making it to dangerous for loads of fans and safety issues coming into play. There will also be travelling to get there which could be potential fun and games. So hopefully at least with undersoil heating hopefully working with cold weather and snow forecast in many parts of the country let's hope for once we can get a game on when it's freezing weather and we don't have to go up on a Tuesday night. I'll still be there on a Tuesday night regardless. But hoepfully costs of hotels can be avoided. Fingers crossed.

  • Don't forget that there are 10,000 holes there.
  • It will be fine game on hundred percent
  • Decided to go up on sat now, 4 of us driving, not expecting much.
  • According to the BBC website we'll be basking in a high of -2 on Saturday. Better not forget my fleece.

  • Shorts & bikini top, then
  • Hoping we can get something out of this game apart from a cold looking at the temperatures for Saturday.
  • BBC has Friday night as a low of -1, with Saturday moving between 0 & -1. No snow or rain forecast either so should be ok unless the forecasts are completely wrong, which is possible. They still have temps as -3 or 5 degrees for Sunday!!

BBC is usually wrong. Netweather (see above) is far more accurate 90% of the time.
  • That is the only site forecasting snow and -4 temp, is that for Blackburn, Aberdeenshire! The Met Office is no snow and 0 degrees. Let's hope they're right as my Bovril will be cold in -4 as my thermos will not cope!

  • We only use Net-weather at work far better than the Met office.

Plus point: Blackburn Rovers has just spent 10 years in the Premier League.
The pitch and weather protection must reach PL standards.

Minus Point: Situated 400 feet above sea level surrounded by bleak high moorland.
At the mercy of inclement weather.

    Conclusion: It's a sh!t hole. Avoid.

    ;o)
  • Would not normally go as been twice before and the pubs and area are dire. Makes Luton seem like a nice place! The train was only £37 return and £20 tickets so decided to go. Lost quite a few train fares over the years, due to postponements I hope this is not another.
  • Let's hope that the undersoil heating as I've already mentioned does its job.

  • met office saying light snow friday night too. Can't see it being on.

If that light snow settles on the ground or too much of it settles on the ground that is when it would be a problem and a potential danger to spectators.

If the areas around the ground are safe enough for spectators the game has a good chance of going ahead because of the undersoil heating.

But we will see I suppose.

  • After the forecast I saw this morning, game will be off, 100%. Too much snow on roads and terraces. :-(
  • temperatures predicted to be a little higher than previously thought, plus only light snow showers. The real problem is possible blizzard conditions on the journey up.
  • Wonder if this will be Blackburns new record low crowd for this season

12460 is the total to beat.
  • Anuradha Desai

BLACKBURN Rovers’ under fire owners Venky’s are set to be at Ewood Park this weekend – with club matriarch Anuradha Desai preparing for just her second visit since The Walker Trust sold up in November 2010.

Co owners Desai, Balaji and Venkatesh Rao are all understood to be making the journey from India later this week to welcome in new manager Michael Appleton’s regime.

Appleton and his assistant Ashley Westwood will take charge for the first time on Saturday, for the Championship visit of Charlton Athletic, and are set to meet their bosses.

It is believed Venky’s will also attempt to sort out the divide in the hierarchy behind the scenes, with global advisor Shebby Singh’s Rovers future uncertain.

Desai’s only other Rovers visit was for a defeat to Tottenham back in February 2011 – a trip that coincided with the departure of former chairman John Williams.

The Rao brothers have watched Rovers numerous times earlier this campaign but the weekend’s visit will be their first for a couple of months

Reckon they'll get a few in for the new manager and the fact they can get their banners out to abuse the usually absent venkeys

Imagin the Venky's coming all the way from India and it getting called off?

  • I love it when they say "avoid travelling unless it's absolutely necessary".

As though anyone is just sitting at home thinking, 'you know what, i'm not doing much today, i really fancy a drive in those freezing, icy, snowy conditions'
  • haha, so true Chris.

although I agree with you to a certain extent, you do have to ask yourself that if you had a ticket for our game at Blackburn, would you bother setting out on Saturday morning if there was snow everywhere............I wouldn't as the trip isn't "absolutly necessary" and would rather say goodbye to £20.
