I wonder if the younger lifers know why we played our first sunday so long after joining the league?
Well, as no one has answered, I thought it was because of the 3 day week & power cuts. Therefore, clubs couldn't play under the floodlights. However, that being the case I don't know why the game wasn't played on the Saturday ?
I also remember in those days our crowds were @5,000 & we got about 7,800.
Slightly off subject but yesterday I spotted Lennie Lawrence's autobiography in Bromley Waterstones for 99p (yes, that's ninety-nine pence!). It's currently £9.59 on Amazon. There were about five copies left in the sports section.

I did know that our first Sunday game was at home to Shrewsbury in 1974. I remember going to it :-(

I also think I recall that it was a fine sunny day on my 30 min walk to the ground.
But think of all the much more important things you've forgotten since!
;o)
Not one of the best.
Was the early kick off something to do with the 3 day working week?
Yes it was to do with the 3 day week & not being able to use floodlights.
But why play on a Sunday as opposed to a Saturday ?
