Jon Fortune

Looks like Jon Fortune has gone back to Stoke for the rest of the season. I don't expect to see him back at the Valley again. Shame that he never quite realised his potential for us. I will never forget watching him and Shittu play for the reserves; they were a good double act.

  • I always thought he was dependable and a good pro who never moaned when he didn't play and when he did gave a solid performance. Maybe that is his problem. He's too laid back and happy to play when required instead of wanting to push himself on. After last Saturday I'll say I'm happy to see him go, hopefully permanently. Looking back to Watford Ashton should have played left-back and either Sankofa or Faye at centre-half. I don't blame Fortune as if you know the following week you are back off to Stoke it's hardly going to inspire you to perform out of your skin.
  • Fortune hasn't exactly let us down over the years - and we'll always love him for sending the Palarse down - but to me he's in the same ball park as Lisbie. As a professional how can you be happy with being second third or fourth fiddle for so long? He should have left a couple of years back, for his own good if nothing else. The fact he's been content to sit there picking up his wedge could suggest "loyalty", but is more likely to be because he (and KL) know when they're onto a good thing.
  • Sadly another player not quite good enough at Premiership level. He'll make a good CCC player and now is the right time for him to go while he can enjoy a good few seasons.
