Prefer the outlook of more positive folk, because I tend to find it more balanced and correct in the long run. As an example, I think it's bordering on absurd to think SCP's position might be under threat at this point. He has shown that he can get results with the squad we have, we've lost a couple on the trot this season and recovered, and he is tactically sound.
Managers can be fired almost on a whim (think Venky's) but that doesn't strike me as likely here and some of the darker scenarios just seem implausible.
But are the happy clappers also the people who stuck their fingers in their ears and insisted that nothing was wrong during the summer? They were annoying, not for their determination to look on the bright side, but for their total refusal to even listen to any potentially bad news.
There was nothing wrong during the summer save for some compulsive overreaction to a lot of gossip and rumour.
I didn't say there was anything wrong. I said that some people's refusal to even consider the possibility was annoying.
I have a mate who will never say that we will not win today, whatever our position or oppostion we are playing. If we are 2 down with 5 minutes to go he still thinks we can come back, absolutely infuriating. I am all for supporting the team, I go to virtually all the games with the exception of midweek aways but I prefer the realistic approach. Example, Watford coming up, we have a chance but will be happy with a draw, blah blah blah
So would you rather your mate just sat back with 5 minutes to go and just accept defeats?
As I said I go for the realistic approach. If we were playing Barcelona he believes that we will not lose.
Are there not games when you think that we do not have a prayer?

Not really - because the best team in our division is Cardiff City (who we put five past) and not Barcelona.

I'd imagine these people you found annoying were the same ones you claimed '...stuck their fingers in their ears and insisted nothing was wrong...' On the contrary, they probably listened to all the 'possibilities' and decided, rightly as it has turned out, that it was a lot of tittle-tattle trotted out by the same old self-aggrandising posters and wasn't worth considering.
Well obviously they were the same ones, because that's what I said. I found them annoying for the reasons I said. It's not complicated.
I don't understand the wrist slitter attitude - this is a club who are playing in the Championship after a couple of seasons in L1. We are not Man United, Chelsea, Man City or some club which is prepared to spend every season something close to the GDP of a small nation therefore we cannot afford a large squad packed with the best footballing talent and therefore are going to go through patches when collectively the team plays poorly and results do not go our way. It has always been this way - so make allowances for human behaviour and the reality of the situation and just enjoy supporting the club and going to the Valley with your mates.

You seem to have missed the point of my post which was that contrary to your accusation of the the so-called happy clappers refusing to listen, they did so and then, quite rightly, dismissed what they heard as nonsense.

Whatever it is I'm getting some.
