Watford KO time

I don't know about anybody else but I am disgruntled about not getting a lie in on NYD because plod has moved the KO time forward to 13.00 - and it is the only game in the division to be moved forward in this way. I tried to think of good reasons why plod would feel it necessary to move the time forward - but could only come up with laughable ones.

So I decided to ask them, under the Freedom of Information Law. And thanks to the brilliant website WhatDoTheyKnow.com, we can all read their answer . Unfortunately they have 30 days to answer so they will of course wait until after the game, and hope that one of us throws a plastic chair...

  • Although I agree with you PA, it think it may be better in the long run. It (should) mean I’ll get home a bit earlier and be able to prepare for the rest of the working week.
  • quite happy with early kick off. Get home early with work the next day.

What's the evidence it was the police? It could have been the clubs.
  • I can't see why the clubs would want to move it forward, and there's no history of agro between the sides, so yes it is a bit annoying...
  • I like early kick-off times. Still miss the old 11am starts on Good Friday, followed by matches on the Saturday and Easter Sunday. It makes it feel different and more festive somehow.
  • Why do you think the clubs would consider the fans with kick off times? This would be very out of character.
  • i like the early k/o. get to watch the scores come in from the other games.
  • Considering I'll be getting on the coach at Charlton roughly 3 hours after getting home from The Venue in New Cross, I'm not expecting it to be an easy day.
  • I'm peed off because although at least 20 people wanted to travel to Watford from Hastings they decided not to run a coach despite the fact they could have filled it at Bexleyheath, Charlton etc. Now it means an earlier start by public transport or not go at all. Sign of things to come ?

no, Valley Express/Away Travel reduction of services.

  • Ring the club up and ask why that is the case.

Here's the email I got from their ticket office

    Dear Mr Hunt

Thank you for your query regarding the kick off time of our forthcoming
match with Charlton on New Year's Day. The kick off time was set
following discussions with the Hertfordshire Constabulary who requested
that it be earlier than 15.00.

    Regards

Fair enough. I agree it's nonsense.

The simple solution here is to hang around for a bit in the chicken shop, then get the train up to London and go straight through. Keep your seat booked on the coach though for the journey home, you'll need a nap!!

  • Or not to go venue on new years eve :D

We've always played earlier over Christma regardless of the opposition .but then one year we did have Millwall AND Cardiff!!!!!

Last season it was Donny hence them bringing a bus load.

3pm KO I would definitely go. 1PM KO, I will see what time I wake up. I doubt I'll go.
  • Football on new years day should be banned anyway. Unless you're an OAP and in bed by 10pm on NYE, who the hell wants to get up and go to football on new years day.

I think this is why Scotland have a bank holiday on 2nd Jan. Not a bad idea me thinks.

Not everyone drinks in this world
  • I think it's particularly unfair on the players personally.

I remember a game in eraly 80'S (?)at Fulham which was an early kick off (at least I think it was NYD). it was frozen - every other game was called off. We struggled up there amazed it hadn't been called off. Surpise surpise it was called off 20 mins before KO. GRRRRR

I love a bit of NYD football, as I do boxing day, I'm not an OAP but won't be up to much NYE due to the kids, NYD will be my chance to have a couple of pints without all the once-a-year drinkers who decide to go out NYE

  • Perhaps i was a bit harsh, i'm sure there are those that will enjoy it, i just think that if you did a poll for players and supporters i'm sure they'd unanimously vote that new years day is a horrible day to play/attend football. The jocks seem to have it sussed as Brendan o'connell pointed out.
  • Going to this then to Pacha in the evening. New years day >>> New years eve
  • Can we buy tickets on the day ?
  • Can we buy tickets on the day ?
