North Upper Closed

Against Huddersfield. No doubt to reduce costs but seems a bit odd to me to close the part of the ground where our vocal support is! why not close the North Lower instead? Maybe an indication of the low priority CP will be giving the cup this year.

  • Or everyone from the upper north could just move to the lower north and make the noise there instead.
  • Be serious uboat
  • Agreed Mike
  • sorry Uboat but I don't want any Upper oiks in the Lower.
  • and if its pissing down seems odd

  • Nothing odd to my mind. If you plan to close a section, then the upper is the clear choice. Better visually for the cameras, better to have fans close to play for atmosphere. You would only close a lower section for away fans would you not?

They only do that at The New Den............

  • Other than having riff raff from the COVERED END (not the north upper) in the East putting their feet on the seats I think it is great.

Always being told by people who sit in the Covered End that people in the East and West should be moved around to accommodate away fans or to put home fans in the Jimmy Seed.

    See how you like it!

(that's a joke BTW before you all get upset)

  • Can anyone tell what cubicle is used in the Lower for a HT ciggie please?
  • I'm gonna sit right behind you for that :-)

We don't bother going in the cubicles Plaaayer, we just stand next to the steward and smoke in the main part of the bogs. He doesn't seem to mind.
  • people are actually gonna go to this?

My brother enjoyed his chat with your mates last time. You never know, Waggy might get a start

    : - )

  • maybe in the spirit of the "Covered End" thread, the covered end could wait until kick off then rush to "take" the Jimmy Seed? A few of the older posters could get their DM's out of storage for the day...

Yes - got my tickets already. First question that comes to mind is "why wouldn't you ?" Its a home game and its a (winnable) cup game.

I also agree with Mike, Tell Tubby and Sir Henry - if you are going to shut part of a stand then might as make it the one furthest from the pitch and so the noise made by the Covered End can finally be heard............

(PS - that last bit is a joke too !)

  • I was half joking golfie
  • There's a lot of truth in jest sometimes.
  • I'm sure Airman can confirm, but I believe to open the NU, the NL has to be open too, due to fire escapes etc. and seeing as there won't be enough demand to open the whole ground anyway, it makes sense to close it off

If you only open the north upper you still have to steward the escape routes via the lower and the quadrants, whereas obviously the upper is not an escape route for fans in the lower tier so the opposite doesn't apply. On the whole, having some people in the lower north is likely to create a better visual perception than having it empty with fans up above - until Millwall cottoned on to this their stadium appeared to be empty on the TV footage of some matches. There again, perhaps it was!

Against this you don't have to steward the pitchside access gates if you do it the other way round.

  • I'll be flogging blankets and thermos flasks outside the west stand, for all you covered enders straying into unknown territory. Have to blend in with the locals you know.

All short sighted, ref-hating, know nothing about football types go straight to the east stand please.
  • Hopefully the 'cauldron of noise' that the North Upper make will be spread around the rest of the ground. Will the drummer relocate to the Directors' box?

But there are only 6,000 seats in the East ??!!??!

Fair point Brendan :-) They'll have to occupy it in shifts.
  • Like previous times when they've done this, the atmosphere will be non-existant, and for that reason, I'm out.

It might look good on TV to have a few bodies in the North Lower but it's just so false. You may as well put a load of dummies on those seats if you want to make it 'look good' ffs.

It will be like watching a reserve fixture. FACT.
