Fulham, premiership, London, looking safe this season...why wouldn't he? Also rumour seems to indicate that he would be the replacement for Schwarzer, so not really same as Robbie's move.
Hamer would be best looking at his options at the end of this season, rather than go to a club and be a number 2. The only reason could be wages but as a keeper you could find it has a negative effect in the long run is your stock lowers. He needs to back himself, so when he goes- it is as a no 1. Not sure Robbie is beneffiting too much, other than financially.
I'm sure Powell would rather keep Hamer (I certainly would), but with Button sitting on the bench, and suppossedly very promising himself, a decent offer for Hamer (a million plus) would get the board thinking, I'm sure.
If selling Hamer funded the purchase of a couple of midfielders or a striker, it could be one of those sales that was better for the club in the long run.
That said, Hamer is arguably the best permanently contracted keeper we've had since Deano so he may not be quite so easy to replace.
Think we have a lot more to see from Ben. Without a doubt - and I loved Deano - the best keeper I have seen here for distribution. There's a lot to exploit there over the next few years & hope we're the ones to benefit.
I think Randolf is a better keeper than Hamer. Still a massive shame he quit.
Randolph had some good games, no doubt about that, but you have to ask yourself if he is that good then why is he at Motherwell playing Jockball and not playing in the CCC like Hamer or with a Premiership club like Eliott?
Randolph wanted to be no.1 at Charlton and playing , understandably considering his end of season form that stopped our slow decent down the table and propelled us back towards the automatics..... He clearly thought he'd played understudy long enough. Fairplay to him for wanting to play regularly , maybe he should have stayed at Charlton and battled for top spot at a League one side but he'd already done that for a few seasons and the manager clearly had his favourite undroppable drop a ball one. I doubt Randy's agent is best mates with a premiership goalkeeping coach, so the big wages 3rd choice keeper at a Prem club wasn't an option for him and maybe he wanted to play regularly rather than benchwarm
As for Hamer I hope he stays , you won't win promotion with a dud for a keeper and he has pushed on this season and will be a hard act to follow but as we all know money talks and no matter how much a player loves a club most if not all will chase the £££'£s and the club may too if the right offer comes in .
you won't win promotion with a dud for a keeper...
It's hard to argue with that oohaah, and i agree that we really want to keep Hamer..but:
1974-75 promotion team, 3 goalkeepers: John Dunn: on the way out Mike Franklin, simply not good enough Graeme Tutt, raw, promising but hardly error-free (1st season, so understandable)
We conceded 61 goals that year - not all down to the keepers of course (Bobby Goldthorpe....) but Killer's goals & Paddy's deliveries + everyone else chipping in compensated just enough. Last season's success was built on very different foundations of course.
97-98 Sasa came in & did brilliantly at the end, but we were always in contention with Petterson, Salmon
Conclusion: you always want to have a decent keeper, but a half-decent one plus a 20+ goal striker can sometimes do the job. So tempting to take silly money for Hamer if offered. HOWEVER, flogging Hamer (or Solly, or Stephens) may well bring you the cash to theoretically get the striker, but who's to say it doesn't get blown on the next Izale McCleod? It all comes down to what you do with the cash

Revenge churning?

It'll be interesting to see how Button does though. Presumably he'll get the nod against Hudds in the FA Cup.
