Well Done Charlton

Went up there with my relatives who are all Brighton fans , and have plenty of Brighton mates who went today. All i want to say is Well Done Charlton.

Every single brighton fan have told me what a great day they have had, and even got a little emotional over the video of the valley that they showed. Even said they thought our fans gave a great atmosphere and were loud.

To top it all off it was a great game and very entertaining. I feel very proud to be a Charlton fan today, Well done everyone .

  • A good set of fans Brighton. A good turn out. It was good to play them today in the context of 20 years back at the Valley. It would be the team I would have picked for the day if given a choice.

It was an entertaining game as well. Well done to all.
  • Yep got a lot of time for Brighton and their fans. A bit like a Charlton by the seaside.
  • AdTheAddick. That's good to hear. I've always had a lot of time for Brighton. Solid fans down there.
  • Great to hear ...so pleased it was Brighton today
  • echo the above, always look forward to Brighton coming to The Valley.
  • Great effort by the club this afternoon
  • Great to hear opposition fans laughing at a funny chant--"We hate Palace more than you". They seemed a good set of fans--best of luck to Brighton for the rest of the season, except for 2 April.
  • Really like brighton as a club and their fans. Similar plight to us over the years.
  • You lot will be holding hands next...

  • Two Brighton mates both went, but have emailed me saying what a great day it was and a draw was a fair result. Good set of supporters.
  • There has been a friendly link between CAFC and B&HA for a long time. The Brighton fans looked to what we had done with the Valley Party and held a 'Fans United' event at the dear old Goldstone Ground. The club was being shafted by their Chairman, who was in the process of selling their ground to property developers - before the club had anywhere else to play! Fans from all over the UK (and beyond) were invited to attend a Brighton home game to show their opposition to what was going on. Charlton weren't playing that day, so loads of Addicks attended. The gates were opened by 'persons unknown' before the KO, and most of the crowd behind the home goal (i.e. us) got in for free. People then offered their cash to the Brighton Independent Supporters' Club.
Brighton won the game at a canter, PA announcer and 'Poet-in-Residence', Attila the Stockbroker, span the records, and the cops were very hacked off.
Later on, another 'Fans United' protest took place at the Priestfield, Gillingham, where Brighton were by then playing their 'home' games.
As you know, the club fought a long, but successful campaign to get a ground of its own in Sussex.
BTW, Attila was one of the chaps on the pitch before the kick off at today's game. Our PA guy introduced him by his real name, John Baine.

Shame he couldn't have done one of his poems. The Night I Slept With Seething Wells would have been good, but I suspect one of his "Nigel" poems would have gone down well with everybody.

    Good gag Len (sorry Offy)
  • Indeed so. I used to see him in The Evening Star pub just outside Brighton station. He told me that the Brighton fans' campaign to get back to Sussex was inspired by our success with the Valley Party. Nice that Brighton were the opposition today.

  • They joined in "if you hate palace stand up", the enemy of your enemy eh...

Great atmosphere, couldn't have been more different to last week!
  • I had a Brighton mate in the away end yesterday and he said it was the best stadium he had ever been to.

    Oooh!..........Too much information :-)
  • Walked back to the station and was on a London Bridge train with them. Really good natured atmosphere and was a great atmosphere inside the ground as well.

  • I think they must be our 'best mates' in a football sense, given the atmosphere when we play each other and the tongue in cheek Palace-hating competition that always occurs. Of course, the bond between the clubs is borne out of us both having the same struggle and each offering support to the other during those difficult times. I think both sets of fans are quite alike in many ways, as well - it must the sense of humour!
