I think anything is possible this season.....

Seven unbeaten, though back to back draws.

Wasn't there today, but think its amazing we are making ourselves so hard to beat through a spell where our starting 11 literally changes every single game to the next.

If we can get people fit and get some selection consistency in the second half of the season, I really think anything is possible in this league. There are no real standouts, its all going to be about keeping yourselves in the hunt and then hopefully finding momentum at the right time.

  • I agree. With Fuller and Wiggins to return, that's a big step up in class. And Finchy reckoned Lawrie Wilson had a good game today, what a good signing he's turned out to be ( and some comments from early season look silly now)
  • before the game we were 5 points off the playoffs, now it's 4. There are so many teams in a similar position so why not us?
I am concerned with the lack of information on Wiggins recovery as he should make quite a difference.
  • Fully agreed AFKA ...anything is possible and I feel quite optimistic

Lawrie Wilson was excellent ...love seeing him in the team
  • The tough, quiet confidence exuded by Chris Powell is having a positive effect on the whole squad ... worse teams than us have gone all the way in recent times ..

    Lawrie probably my MOM today.

  • When wiggy is back we can move solly to rightback and push wilson into right midfield i think he would thrive with solly supporting him. I think the key things Sir Chris needs to sort out is his best strike partnership and his best central midfield partnership, once this happens we have the makings of a class side.

Make you right about Wilson and Solly but I think our centre and left midfield needs a lot of work.

  • Always thought this league would be average this season. The teams relegated are all hamstrung by debt or (in the case of Wolves) a bizarre managerial choice! Teams like Leicester always spend money but never run away with it.

We could finish anywhere tbh but if we have any money and can strengthen in January we may be able to push for play offs.

The defence is as good as any teams. If we had a "Mikail smith & Buckley" in the team we would be up with Palace.

I thought central midfield looked good today which leaves the left side to sort out - it will be interesting to see how the teams gels and what results we get when everyone back - I'm still not clear who are the best partnership up front but it's good to have quality and cohesion compared to 5 or 6 years ago

I've been a big critic of Dale but agree he was on the money today. Frimpong will once fully fit and integrated be a very useful addition although the suggestion that we will be able to make it permanent is I think fanciful. We still desperately need that player in the middle who has time on the ball and can be our metro gnome. Neither Dale or Manny are that. Wide left is very weak and needs attention in January also.

  • I agree anything could happen, though we need 2/3 signings if we're going to really push on.

I'd say we need to bring in a left midfielder and a pacey striker in January - both of the level that expect to play.

Central midfield depends on what happens with Frimpong - think he could do well with a good run of games. If he doesn't stay we need someone else in that mould - can tackle, has a bit of pace and strength and can run with the ball.

Hope to see Wilson at RM ahead of Solly and Wiggins back (with Evina competing for a place).

And of course we need to keep our better players.
  • Could Evina be a short-term solution at wide left?
  • There are the usual pessimists around,I'm not one, never have been. I feel that there is no team in this division that we need fear. We've now played them all pretty much and our team can give as good as they get,and more. Just need to get the home form settled so that teams fear playing at The Valley---don't tinker with the away set-up though.COYR.

4 points from the playoffs , anything can happen , but we need a left back , where has Seabourne gone?

He was sick today apparently. Thinks his loan runs out soon though.
  • need Wiggy back ASAP or Ceddy at the very least. Wilson was my MOM today and him and Solly down the right is the way forward. If we need to strenthen anyway it must be midfield. Stephens had a good game today but think he will be off in Jan. Frimpong playing can allow for a more progressive midfielder alongside him and left midfield needs addressing.
  • Fifty points first, and then see where we are after that.
  • draws aint worth a

Anything could happen. I suspect what will happen is we'll end up around about where we are now.

As others have said, we're 2 or 3 players away from being able to consider ourselves serious promotion contenders, but we're too tough to beat to get dragged back down to the relegation scrap.

Mid table is fine by me though. The Championship is such an evenly matched division and it's very enjoyable as a result.

Spot on. We are 2 or 3 quality signings away from being a top 6 side.
  • I'm not sure about a "metro gnome" in midfield as suggested by SHG.

    Too short for a start. ; - )
  • The Dale Stephens thing is very interesting, Villa are still struggling to score goals but would they be keen on Stephens again in January? Very tough to say.

He is a good player but I can't see him in the Premiership at this stage.
  • Whilst stating the bleeding obvious, it's a very even league, and automatic promotion will be won by whoever puts together a decent run whilst everyone else is fecking around getting knocked out of the cup early in the first couple of months in the new year. The play-off places will still be up for grabs by about 10 teams with 3 games to go, but I feel we defend too deep at times and this allows the opposition to dominate the midfield and leaves too much of a gap to the forward(s), for us to have more than cursory interest.
    We will finish 12th.
  • Chrissy is making the side hard to beat - that is a great foundation. You have to be a total pessimist to worry about relegation now- in this league where everybody can beat everybody, the play offs are a real possibility.
  • The board and prospective owners want promotion this season apparently - let's see how January goes with signings.

Never a dull moment being a Charlton fan :-)
  • Results prove that we are close to being promotion contenders especially if one takes into account our injuries and general bad luck at the start of the season. We need to strengthen the left side, but Wiggins will make a big difference there. We have some good options up front and I think it will be a case of picking the best strikers to suit the occasion depending on their fitness and form. If we can remain just outside the play offs until the end of Jan and make a couple of good signings we could make a strong push for promotion. This season may be our our best hope, we need to strike whilst the iron is still hot.
