Premier League Survey

edited March 2007 in General Charlton
Very interesting results from the latest PL survey, which gives futher evidence that youngsters are being priced out of the game at top level.

Average age of Premiership supporter - 43

Percentage of fans under 24 years old - 9%

Average price rise since 1990 - 600%

Would be very interested how Charlton compares to the average, i would expect the number under 24yrs to be significantly higher.

  • Oh well only half as bad as the average
  • You'd have to take the rate of inflation over 17 years into account as well.
So in real earning/spending terms probably not as bad as it sounds.
  • Well if a ticket behind the goal was 8 quid in 1990 (think that's right), then if inflation has been at an average of 2.5% per annum then the ticket price should be just over £12. On the day prices behind the goal are £25 I believe, so that's a real world increase of about 105% over those 17 years. Now that's not really a fair comparison as we're in a higher league and have far better facilities (I'm sure everybody would agree that the Covered End is better than standing at Sell Out or Upton).

So basically our ticket price is probably £5-10 above what it should be just taking into account inflation and improvement of facilities. Obviously demandhas an effect on that price too, so I reckon that the season ticket price (approx £19 per game) is about spot on what it should be.

I made my figures upMy figures are calculated guesswork.

  • I believed your figures as well SS, would be interesting to see the Charlton component.

I'm sure the club undertook a big survey a couple of years ago, wonder how the findings would of changed, particularly the impact Valley Express may be having.
