RIP Bob Scott

edited November 2012 in General Charlton
To most of you here on Charlton Life the name Bob Scott will not mean much (if anything). For the few of you who are old enough to remember the post war AB's Team I wanted to write a little tribute to him here.

As well as playing for the All Blacks Bob was a great family friend of ours. He had known my mother since she was a small girl growing up in Wellington, New Zealand and it was he who encouraged her to take up golf - a sport she loves more than any other. On top of that Bob was a true fighter who'd had a difficult upbringing but channeled his energy at becoming the very best in his sport. My family will miss Bob very much so I hope you don't mind this little indulgence of mine.

  • Rugby was my chosen sport to play as a youngster .. If I recall Bob Scott did something that could never have been done by an Englishman .. he changed codes from League to Union .. a hanging offence for the RFU. A hard, working class rugby man .. RIP

How do I post a clip from YouTube?
  • Not old enough to remember him but must have been a fine rugby player if he got into the All Blacks Hall of Fame. RIP Bob.

    One of the finest.
  • Just to pont out that even I am not old enough to remember Bob playing. I was awed as a teenager by Whineray's AB team from the early 60s when the formidable Don Clarke was always compared to Bob Scott as a full back. The concensus was that Bob was 'ahead of his time''. As for so many men, World War 2 took much of his youth and potential.

Yes Lincs. I suppose you could say it was the same for someone like Stanley Matthews. Ahead of his time.
