  • Powell obviously likes hollands as a player and person he sounds quite sad and serious about this outcome.

  • Didn't realize we still had Andy Hughes!
  • Sounds to me like the end of his Charlton career.
  • Yeah, SCP didn't exactly come across as being desparate to have him here.

Danny has a chance but I'll just mention the 6 other centre mids who are in front of him right now.

  • not exactly a 'go there, get fit, come back raring to go amd fight for his place' statement. Reads as if a permanent move has already been muted and this is a 'come and prove yourself worthy' loan. Sad, I like Danny and was hoping he'd adapt to Championship given time as you can't deny he was struggling. Good luck to him whatever transpires.

Including 2 left wingers, a loanee and a man who hasn't played for us since about February :)
  • if we can get a fee for him that would be a great bit of business, since we got him on a free transfer
  • I like the player - he works hard and tries but he's struggled this season and this could be a good permanent move for him.

I wasn't lucky enough to see all our games last season so missed the real purple patch around this time last year, but I have to say when I caught a few of the games during the run in, while briefly back in the UK, I was really disappointed with Hollands (could say the same for most of our midfielders tbh - Pritch excluded). Having heard rave reviews all season I had high hopes but he didn't stand out as anything special in the games I saw. Tidy and solid enough, certainly far from a poor player, but nothing too exciting and based on what I saw last year I'm not surprised he's found the step up a bit challenging.

I wouldn't write him off as a Championship player just yet, but it's clear he's well down the pecking order so it makes sense he goes out on loan to give him some game time to try and rediscover some form or secure a permanent move and reduice the wage bill a little at the club's end.

  • I don't think he's suited to the defensive role that he's given. He seemed to thrive when he had someone next to him to do that job and he was given a bit of freedom.

Scored a lovely volley last game of the season so I'll left him off the few sh*t games he's had this year.
  • Didn't he have his toe fused or something over the summer? I think that's badly affected his performances but maybe he just isn't good enough for the Championship. A sad fact if it's true.

Also who the fudge is Eggert Jonsson?!?
  • Bless him, nice fella, looks like he's riden more horses than John Wayne, but falls short of Champs quality. Even when he was playing well last season, I could see there wasn't enough about him to make the step up from Lge 1.
  • He played a big part in our success last season and was very much a 'Charlton type player'. It's a shame that he doesn't appear to have stepped up, but I am very grateful to him for what he did us.

    Good luck Danny.

When the Jonsson move materialised it can only have meant one thing....
  • How sick would you be bursting your arse all last season and getting a team promoted, to be sent out on loan to a club who are in a league you worked so hard to get out of!!!
  • Thought he'd at least be solid for us at this level but not surprised he's found it difficult. The midfield was the weakest area of the team last season and was always going to evolve this season.

Powell knows what he's doing, he can't say it's for anything other than a chance for him to get a run of games. A couple of injuries and/or Stephens being sold might lead to him coming back into the side, or Jonsson might impress, get a permanent move and replace him.

    I heard differently.

So we should play him out of loyalty for last season then?

I heard differently perhaps best to leave it at that.

  • I would try harder to be the best player in my club in my postition
Then I wouldn't be put out on loan
  • If DH is struggling because of his foot op in the summer then perhaps its not a surprise he's not been as good as we'd like this season.

He was out of contract, why would we pay?

If it's not been working out for Hollands this season it won't be because he hasn't been trying. He's one of our hardest working players and I think he just needs to find his feet again.

I'm sure he would ave enjoyed winning the division, and if it is his level then he can laws say he won the division.

I also suspect he would have received a bonus and a pay rise on the back of promotion. With his pay rise he doesn't have to leave for less, so I think he has benefitted from the promotion.

I, really, hoped he'd make the step up, and I thought he would, but if not I'm sure he'd rather be playing somewhere else.

Good luck to him, he payed a big part in a fantastic season for us and I'll always think of him as a hero!
  • i think the step up in class has caught a few by surprise - it certainly has me, and ultimately CP was starting to come under a bit of pressure so he's acted - brought a few loans in / shuffled a few out - no room for sentiment (or a bloated squad) unfortunately

  • Hollands will always be remembered by me as a hardworking and talented player who helped drag us out of the third division.
He was part of the Powell revolution and a breath of fresh air following five years of utter dross wearing the shirt.
    Good luck Danny.
