Bristol City v Charlton Ath | 11 November 2012 | Preview, Views, News and Line Ups

Introduction

Well Tuesday’s game can show why this league is so unpredictable and at times you dread to think what the next game is going to bring. That next game is an away trip to Bristol City on Sunday and with the Robins struggling at the bottom of the league; it’s likely that the momentum from the Cardiff result could be a key factor in kicking the Addicks into our first back-to back victory of the season.

The Opposition

Bristol City haven’t won since September and have lost six games in a row, the poor form has slumped them to 23rd and only one point above bottom-placed Ipswich. Another defeat on Sunday could see the end of Derek McInnes’ reign as City manager. In their last match, the Robins lost 2-0 to Birmingham and after the game McInnes stated "It is embarrassing. I am embarrassed. The players should be embarrassed and it is now a crucial game against Charlton on Sunday.”

The pressure will hopefully get to City on Sunday but we mustn't underestimate the strength that is within their squad. Up-front, the Robins have Sam Baldock who was supposedly a target for Charlton last summer and John Stead who always seems to do well against us. Another threat to be aware of is the pacy winger Albert Adomah so the Addicks need to watch out for his counter-attacking threat especially against a make-shift back four.

The Line Up

Well Tuesday’s selection surprised most people with the inclusion of Morrison at right-back and Solly at left-back with Kerkar back to left-wing and Haynes included on the right. However after going down 2-0, Powell switched from 4-5-1 to 4-4-2 with Haynes partnering Hulse up-top and putting Pritchard over to right-midfield. This proved to be much more effective, so I expect a similar formation on Sunday.

One of the main questions still left unanswered is if Morrison will continue at right-back a position which isn't his most comfortable and I’m surprised that Powell hasn’t signed a left-back yet especially with Evina and Wiggins out. For the time being, I can’t see Powell wanting to experiment with another player at right-back.

One major positive for Charlton could be the return of Ricardo Fuller who may feature on the bench instead of Azeez who was unlucky not to make his senior debut in mid-week. Jordan Cook is a doubt still with illness, but if he recovers he too may feature on the bench.

The Prediction
1-2 to the Addicks.

  • Good preview Stubbers.

Tough to call this one. I seem to think this every single game lately !

Mind those splinters in your bottom Mr D.
    ;-)
  • Boring, workmanlike but very welcome 2 - 0 win for the Addicks.

    Charlton to score a penalty.

Red Division sing their hearts out for the lads.
  • I would not be surprised if we do not sign a left back before this game - even at this late stage as CP has obviously been trying to get someone in. If he does, I expect Morrow to go back to CH and Dervitte to return to the bench, If not, the same side as Tues as SCP does like to keep faith in a winning side.

Even at this early stage of the season this could be billed as a 6 pointer and I would start with 5 in midfield. There is therefore a very good case for keeping in Dervitte and droping Haynes to the bench and this is what I would do, at least for the first 50=60 mins. We need to keep it tight at the back and not go in gung ho.

But then again, their defence is suspect and attack maybe the better form of defence?

Oh God, I don't know. Which is why in SCP I trust.

I think we will win 8-6

  • My first away game of this year so I'm gradually getting more excited hour by hour. However I've never seen us win away before in 7-10 attempts as I've stated before so I have very low expectations even though its only Bristol and our amazing display V Cardiff on Tuesday.

I shall be optimistic though and go for a 2-1 to the Addicks. Jackson and Hulse with the goals.

    COYR!!!!!
  • Bristol very confident on their 'not 606' site, 5-0, 4-1, 3-1's everywhere. 2-3 for me.
  • Thats weird considering theyve lost their last 6 games. :0\
  • Does anyone know why this game is on a Sunday? It's not on TV by any chance is it?
  • I thought this was on saturday, which meant I could not attend. Just seen it's on Sunday, I'll be there!!
So I think we can bang in another 3 if Haynes stays fit till the game!

    3-1 I reckon

  • I think CP will go 4-5-1 with Haynes playing wide right midfield and Hulse up top with Ric Fuller on the bench. A tight game but our first back to back win. 1-2 to the Addicks!
  • Does anyone know why this game is on a Sunday? It's not on TV by any chance is it?

Well, there was a rumour that it was to do with Rovers and rugby games being played on Saturday, but more likely because they know they need a f*****ing miracle, and playing on Sunday seems the best bet.
  • 3-0 Charlton, Haynes 2, Pritchard
  • Weirdly I'll be in Bristol but won't be going to the match. We really need to win this as I think two wins on the bounce would do us a world of good. I think we can win it as well. As long as we're solid at the back the confidence from the attacking display against Cardiff should see us through. Haynes to score but come off injured before the end of the match
  • 1-3!! Jacko 2, Haynes 1, heading down there tommorow afternoon for a long weekend! Anyone know where they are drinking pre match? Cmon you reds!!
  • Does anyone know why this game is on a Sunday? It's not on TV by any chance is it?

  • I believe it is because Bristol Rovers are also at home this weekend, they are playing Saturday and so City have agreed to play on Sunday. I think this was all agreed before the fixtures were published at the start of the season. Nothing to do with TV.
  • After our last 4 results, I don't know what to think of us. Are we good, are we bad?

i don't know so ill predict something boring

    5-8 to charlton
  • Comfortable 2 nil win for us, with other below us doing poorly on the Saturday ideally.
  • unchanged team if haynes fit. if not, fuller could start. 1-1

  • 3-2 to us goals from Cort, Jacko and Hulse.
  • not feeling good about this , the players looked jaded as they left the field
those last two goals giving us a pyschological blow in the head , hopefully just a reminder that there are no easy games in this league
i'd love a point and i fear thats the best we'll get but more than likely we'll kick start their season with a 2-1 victory to city
  • If ever a team wants to break a hoodoo it's best to break it playing against Charlton. I hope the boys' heads are firmly on the job after the madness of the last match otherwise I can see City getting their first win 2-1.
  • Is this "pacy winger Albert Adomah " right or left? Could affect our selection.
  • i think Powell might start with 4-5-1 again. it seems to do us a job away from home.

    2-1 Charlton

'Albert Danquah Adomah plays as a right winger for Bristol City and the Ghana national team'.

    Oh dear!
  • he's a winger from Ghana, he's probably as inconsistent as they come
  • Bristol have scored 18 goals at home so far this season but, have also conceded 18, Charlton have scored 6 in the last two games and conceded 8 ......... My prediction 0-0 :D you know it makes sense.

When I looked at the fixture list this year, it seemed like a fixture computer cock up, as Rovers and City (like all local rivals) generally never play at home the same weekend!

It seems like we've signed Seaborne on loan, so presumably he'll play LB, with Solly back to RB
  • My first time at Ashton Gate since I was a wee nipper in '94. I'll take a draw, they'll be targeting this as a must win game so should be up for it. If we can take it to half time at 0-0 I fancy our chances.
