Six Minutes Added Time

For the life of me, I can't see where the ref got 6 minutes from in that second half.
Three goals, Haynes injury and the substitutions would surely only make 3 or so.
Timewasting went on, but wasn't outrageous, so I just can't see it - especially as we've seen far more time wasting, subs etc and only 3 or 4 minutes added on in games in the past.
I don't know - maybe I've missed or forgotten something?

So, serious question - maybe to any refs out there - how did he come up with 6 minutes?

  • Can't believe this hasn't already been raised on here !!!

Everyone seated around me was gobsmacked...Anyone closer to SCP see his reaction ?
  • He spent at least 6 minutes pulling cards out of his pocket....
  • Meant to be 30 seconds per goal isn't it, plus subs etc?
  • Agreed.

First half, 4 goals and no injuries = 2 mins. Therefore it's 30 seconds per goal.

Second half, 3 goals, an injury and a few subs. Should have been 3 mins max!

Love the fact we're discussing this after a great win!
  • I was quite excited when he put 6 minutes, I really thought we was going to score 6 as I have never seen us score that many. How I nearly cried when it went 5-4. Only Charlton can do that.

If Cardiff had nicked an equaliser, we'd have been discussing it A LOT more.

I know - It was a great win and I'm in a great mood! So not really moaning!
Also, like Nicholas, when 6 mins came up, I wasn't concerned, but hoped for another home goal - but even at the time my immediate reaction was 'What the f***?'

He had his head down just staring

  • wasn't surprised. he must have had it in his head we were time wasting from when solly and morrison kicked the ball away 80 yards. he was itching to book hamer (who was trying his patience to perfection).
from 45 mins - 90 mins if you add 30 seconds for each goal and substitution = 3 minutes, add 30 seconds for each stop in play for the 6 bookings = another 3 minutes.
add to that from 90 mins+ the 2 goals and 1 sub i'd imagine he played over 7.5 minutes.
  • plus time Haynes spent being stretched out for his cramp, when you look at it in the cold light of day he probably got it right.

  • 6 minutes doug e fresh you're on was about right (only cos we won)
  • if football was run by normal people who cared about customers you would have:

a stadium clock wired up to the 4th official, which stops when time is added on, like in ice hockey; an automatic electronic whistle which then sounds bang on 90.00, and:
a clear statement at the beginning of the seas on about standard add-ons such as 30 seconds for a goal or a sub.

Can anybody give me a good reason why it should not be done like that?
  • Ref had us down for a draw on his pools coupon...........FACT!!!!
  • Bloody ridiculous it was never 6 minutes the Haynes cramp didn't take up any time as they pulled him off the pitch almost immediately. Luckily it worked out fine but when you are having a run of bad luck this kind of thing tens to bite your arse (which is nearly did) sometimes officials havea lot to answer for.
  • Agree with Dave. There's plenty games where there are 6 subs a couple of goals and lots of timewasting and a 3 goes up. There was very little messing around and Haynes injury didn't waste any match time, the ref was busy booking Hulse while he was being helped off.
  • I think the ref recognised that true Charlton fans only truly appreciate victories which are achieved after overcoming adversity and a couple of near heart attacks!
  • He got it out of his backside.
  • plus time Haynes spent being stretched out for his cramp, when you look at it in the cold light of day he probably got it right.

    He did n't

  • Correct shag the ref was booking Hulse and by the time he had finished Haynes was off and BWP was on
  • There was very little timewasting, as we were 3 goals up and on top, and during normal time were cruising to victory. If we had been 1-0 up, I'm sure we would have timewasted a lot more!

  • The ref-
    Card happy c**k
    End of
  • Succinct Floyd....also correct
  • never seem to get 6 minutes when we're losing by the odd goal no matter how much time wasting, how many injuries or how many subs made.

Also there is no such rule of 30 seconds a sub, it depends how long it takes. 30 seconds is an average. There were only 4 anyway as we had only made 2 and they only did it twice (2 being at the same time)
No time should be added for goals except in the case of over zealous and long celebrations unless they have changed the rules recently
  • It was a joke wasn't it. Haynes was off the pitch in no time.
As has been said, you get games with long injury breaks and proper time wasting and the board goes up with 3 or 4.
    6 was a complete farce.
  • Neither side wasted any time - certainly less than you get in most games. He played 2 minutes additional time for the first half - 30 secs for each goal so effectively no added time in that. Refs do confuse me!
  • As I said in the post-match thread, he seemed determined to play until Cardiff equalised. I remember a similar game against Villa many years ago which ended 4-4 (I think) and I'm convinced would still be going on today if Villa hadn't scored the 4th.

    He did n't

    LOL piss off

  • I have been to games where players have been stretchered off and only a few mins added , the 6 minutes added was quite ridiculous.
  • it was because at 5-2 we were singing "we want six"
  • Leicester ref did similar this season. We didn't miss out in both games, but I think there is a case to be answered here.
