Running the London Marathon 2013

My beloved Lifers,

As the title says, I have secured a Golden Bond place for the Virgin London Marathon 2013 and have done this through the Breast Cancer Campaign charity.

Having failed for the third time in getting a place through the official ballot, I opted to run for a charity that is very close to my heart and of great significance to many.

Having been a Charlton supporter for many years, I know only too well how kind, generous and supportive you guys can be and hence, as part of my fundraising effort, I have placed a link on here for my Just Giving page.

I have never run a marathon before, will be three weeks shy of my 45th birthday and am determined to beat the guy who straps the fridge to his back!!

Please feel free to read my story, take the p*** out of my unflattering picture and also the fact that I will be wearing a pink vest throughout the race!

The page went online yesterday morning and already I have donations totalling £700 which is truly amazing.

Thank you in advance for your support.

  • Good luck to you, it's a fantastic race to do.
Just remember it starts now - the training is the hard part, the race is your lap of honour.

Much appreciated! I have had tips in abundance!
  • Hi all,

Thought I would try and revive this post to see if I can drum up some more sponsorship!

The total to date stands at £1690 with a few more friends/family to donate and with a fundraising Golf day next week at Cowdray in honour of my Mum I should be looking to break the £2000 mark (everything crossed!!)

When you have five minutes, please have a look at the Just Giving site and any donation that you can make is more than appreciated.

Thank you all for your kind words of support and contributions so far!

    COYR's!!!!

  • Nervously excited myself as well! Well done on the fundraising CH68!

I've made some fantastic friends through this site as well and without them (and CL) I wouldn't have raised nearly as much as I have. So thank you to @Curb_It, @Suzisauage, @Stone, @Tavern, @Brunello, @Plaaaayer, @Carlsberg, @Dicko, @Ketman, @Gumbo, @GlassHalfEmpty, @RedArmySE7, @LenGlover, @RoseandCrown, @Dazzler, @Medders, Stubley, @Les_Says and anyone else who I've undoubtedly missed out.

All the messages of support in the Lib have been super as well. I'll be wearing Charlton shorts and have green and purple hair so give me a shout on the 21st if you're around. Good luck to Dazzler running Brighton this weekend as well.

It would be silly for me not to throw my link on: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/GlennSoutham

    Fantastic Fundraising WSS!!

Good luck on the day and I'll keep an eye out for you!

  • Just tagging on to the this post but I am also running in this year's marathon. How many Lifers are actually doing it?

I only post on here and have never met anyone in person (yet) so I don't really expect anyone to do this, but if there is someone who is willing to donate to AsthmaUK then my page is http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/MichaelMa

I am just over half way to my target of £1600 so any donation will be gratefully received.

Regardless of my total sponsorship it has been hard graft training through the winter months but I will look forward to the actual day immensely and I hope that there will be many Lifers cheering all the runners on come the day.
  • Not forgetting the youth team running the RTTB half marathon for the Upbeats in September. ;)
