CLiCK - Charlton Life Championship Knowledge System - November 2012 Form Guide

The November CLiCK looks back on the month of October and once again gives you the stats for each club so far this season.

According to the CLiCK guide, Charlton had a decent October. Based on the league position of their opponents at the time they played them, Charlton had the second toughest programme in October, while our results were rated as 8th best in the division. This week’s opponents, Middlesbrough, and our friends at Crystal Palace had an equally tough set of games, yet emerged as the teams of the month. Meanwhile, Bristol City and Watford performed poorly against modest opposition. Leeds had the easiest games by far, but did not perform well.

As for the stats about winning/losing/scoring/not scoring, Charlton are now one of six teams that have succeeded in scoring in every away game; Crystal Palace and Leicester City go one step further having scored in all their home games as well.

The most worrying statistic as we all know is that we have gone five games at home without a win and played three home games where we failed to score.

As for November’s opponents, both Middlesbrough and Cardiff City are strong at home, but less solid away. Cardiff, however, have scored two goals in four of their away games – the highest in the league. Middlesbrough have scored away from home in all but one game, but have only kept one clean sheet on their travels.

The two away games that follow at Bristol City and Burnley show different fortunes. Bristol City have suffered four consecutive defeats and like ourselves have now gone five home games without a win. They have also conceded in every home game. Burnley, on the other hand, have scored in every home game and have not lost any of their last four games on their own patch.

The month ends with home bankers against Huddersfield and Peterborough – both teams have shown varied form on their travels with no real patterns.

I agree with you on one level - a win is a win and all you get is 3 points. However, there are about 1.5 times more home wins than away wins, so for the purpose of giving some indicative data on how well teams are performing and how tough their programme has been, a factor of 1.5 was applied to away games. The only table that counts, of course, is the one printed in every paper and on football websites.
