Please vote for the Deaf Team

Good Afternoon,

I want to introduce myself first. My name is Ryan Marshall and I am the assistant coach/player for Charlton Athletic Deaf FC. We are a squad of 30 deaf players and we are representing CAFC in all local competitions as well as deaf national cups. This is our website: www.cadfc.com where we keep track of our fixtures and results.

We have been with CAFC for the last 10 years but however, we are an independent team where we try to raise funds ourselves as well as pay out of our pocket. We couldn't afford to buy the new team kit regularly so currently we are wearing the team kit from 2006 where the sponsor was Llanera. So after 7 years we have been getting holes in our kit, colours gone funny and socks goes missing. So we are seeking to buy the new kit. We have always wanted to update our team kit to keep up with the first team and the youth teams but we are just lacking funds.

Recently, we have found an opportunity to win £2,000 from Phones 4u on facebook so in order to win this competition, top 10 teams with the most votes by 15th October will win the the prize. This will be fantastic for us to win this and we only can do this with your vote. So I was wondering if you guys would like to help and support the deaf section to get the prize to pay for a new set of home kit for the squad as well as buying some equipments.

Please vote here: https://t.co/hXbboy4W

Mind you, you will need to have a facebook account to do this but otherwise, we will be very grateful if you could vote. It will only take 2 minutes of your time.

Also, we are always seeking for a sponsorship and we will always be open to any ideas how to get funding/sponsors.

Thank you for your time in reading this post and looking forward to hear from you all Addicks!

Kind Regards

Ryan

  • Could any of the supporters groups help out , like they did with the Charlton Upbeats / Academy?
  • done, and good to see you in 2nd place on the voting. Here's hoping it stays that way and you can ditch the Llanera kit!!!

    Sorry, not got facebook.

Bit of a joke that they can't spare some funding when you consider the other things they put money in to.

    Good luck!
  • Hi Ryan, I don't suppose you were part of a deaf Charlton 5 a side team at Elmers End a few years ago?
  • Yes Thank you Davey, we are only 7 votes away from 1st place and we still got another one & half week to go. We can do this but just need all the support from everyone.

I know SE10, we have tried really hard to get some funding but couldn't get anywhere with them so we have to find alternative funding ourselves.

Indeed, I was part of the deaf team 5-a-side team years ago but now we haven't got a 5-a-side team as we are focusing on 11-a-side. Did you play against us?
  • I've put this on my facebook and tweeted it out with #cafc, suggest you do the same and repeat every 2-3 days till the 13th then a couple of times on 13th 14th and 15th
  • Yeah I'm sure i did....Did you play in yellow allsports kits?
  • yeah, funny enough we still got that yellow kit in storage haha we lend it to the deaf youth players when they have a match.

Thanks Kap10, I will start using Twitter a lot more often to get it to a wider audience.

We have been with CAFC for the last 10 years but however, we don't get any funding or similar from the Community Trust and they only provide the training ground for free of charge which we are always grateful for. We are an independent team where we try to raise funds ourselves as well as pay out of our pocket. Agreed. You'd think the club would be able to throw in the odd set of kits now and then wouldn't you?
  • Done. 197 pts now. I can't believe how you can't get some sort of sponsorship from the club.
  • Done, 200th voter. Good luck

  • Ok so it's getting RT'd quite a bit and I also posted it on the Charlton Live twitter account, seems to be going well.
  • Voted, now at top by 27 points!

Also, funny to see someone has entered the Liverpool FC (First Team) in there..
  • Dear all,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you Addicks for your votes as we are now top of the leader board. This means we are looking likely to get the money to pay for our much needed kit.

I am sending this message to clarify something after reading a few comments on this thread. I apologise if I have given the impression that Charlton Athletic Community Trust have not been supportive. In fact CACT have been wonderful over the years. We have used their Sparrows Lane training ground at no cost for 9 years now. This is a huge help as we would not be able to afford to hire a training venue. This alone has saved us thousands over the past 9 years. When we first joined CACT we were given a whole new Charlton Athletic kit (anyone remember the yellow allsports one?). This was free. We got free coaching in our first season. Unfortunately Charlton Athletic got relegated from the premier league and the club shop had a separate agreement with the kit manufacturers Joma and Macron. They both owned the rights and the contract only allowed free kit provisions to the senior team, womens and youth and not the disabled, deaf or the community team. This was not the fault of the club or CACT at all. It is also important to realise that CACT are in fact a separate organisation which means they are not totally dependent on Charlton Athletic FC for their survival.

We have had some freebies over the years such as balls, training tops and a few other things. We used to be able to use Sparrows Lane training ground for cup games before the astro was built and this was free of charge. Barry Simmons and his team have tried hard to accommodate our needs but have had the good sense to try and ensure we are able to stand on our own feet without relying on their support as its important for a teams survival to be able to generate our own funds. We do charge our players £150 a season membership and this covers our 35 games a season (pitch, refs, insurance, fees etc).

We only need to raise money for away trips, kit and equipments. Once again I apologise for making it sound like we don't get any support. We are meeting Barry next week and it seems promising we may be able to get a good deal on the kits so if we win the £2,000 we may be able to get 2 kits (home and away).

Thanks for your support and keep voting. Its nice to see Charlton top of something if we cant top the Championship!!

Thanks for your time in reading this.

Awesome, thanks for many more votes but we certainly don't want to stop now. The top 10 teams have over 70 votes so they can catch up with us over the next 10 days so it would be great to pass this onto your friends.

Thank you Kap10 for getting Johnnie Jackson to retweet, that is amazing and a big boost for us.

We also accept donations on our homepage to help fund the team: http://www.cadfc.com
Paypal or Credit/Debit card is accepted.

We really appreciate the support from you guys.
  • Ryan,
I work in a school with a DHI Centre, so I've passed it on to them to spread the word. I dare say a lot of them already knew about it, but it doesn't hurt to publicise a bit more eh?

    Good luck!
