Lets Move On

Having watched the match last night and read the comments posted both last night and today, I am in awe of the reactions of some of the supporters on this site.

Whilst being completely frustrated for most of the second half by missed opportunities and the fact that even with 10 men on the pitch Watford still manage to beat us, I am gobsmacked by some of the comments put on here 'Amateur', 'Naive', 'Stubborn' to name but a few.

I totally agree that the subs were left a tad late, the ref was a shocker and that there were some mistakes made by our players. What I don't agree with is the somewhat knee-jerk reaction that we are doomed to fail, the Manager is useless and lets just get on the players backs when we're 2-1 down.

I throw my hands up to you all in that I stood and remonstrated when BP tried to wiggle his way round their defence to get the ball in the back of the net when he probably could have done it on his first touch. I am by no means a hypocrit and to say that I was frustrated is an understatement.

However, I feel that our performance far outshone Watford overall as it did on Saturday against Blackburn. We were by far the much better team and I can not name one player that didn't give 100%.

Mistakes will happen and results will not go our way in some games but that is for SCP to reflect on and act on. If we go the season without any of the aforementioned, then yes we are doomed.

Will that happen?? I very much doubt it. As mentioned on another thread, if you thought this league would be a stroll in the park then think again.

Lets move on and concentrate on the next game.

  • Agreed. The word "inept" does my head in as well, absolutely infuriating.

On the night we didn't do much wrong, we just couldn't put the ball in the net!
  • In this league uve got to make ur chances count ?
We need men with cofidence just like fuller as soon as he was one on one with keeper u knew he would score. The team just seemed to lack a bit ,100 % effort yes but not in confiedence. Cp needs to install this in the players.
Yes were better than our points, results, league postion makes us out to be?
    Let start making it count
  • You have to keep it in perspective.

Hoe many people have commented on last nights performance so far in the various threads ? 200 ? 300 ?

You are always going to get different opinions, opposing views and some more extreme than others. That will always be the case. More often than not t will be the majority in the.middle that mainly have it about right, however them views are less likely to provoke a reaction from others.
  • I still left The Valley last night full of belief for this season. Am I mad?
  • On the night we didn't do much wrong, we just couldn't put the ball in the net!

Isn't that the point of the game or am I missing something?
  • we are in the midst of an injury crisis to 3 of our first 11, on top of that we are adjusting to this level, and have been unable to increase the quality of the that first 11 with perhaps one exception. It needs time, I just hope we and Powell have that luxury.
  • agree with the OP's point.

But theres nothing wrong with trying to disect a performance on an internet forum. opinions will be a lot more drastic the night or day after a game.

sheff utd Charlton will come good.

Careful, was that a typo or are you bringing Danny Murphy's wife into this thread? :-)

9 Points off top though right or is it 10 now?

  • The league is very tight and a couple of wins on the bounce and you start looking at play offs rather than relegation that's how close it is we need people to step up to another level, Powell to learn from mistakes and move onwards.

Next few away games coming up might be good for us as the home teams will be expecting 3 points against little old charlton, and I believe we'll pick up some unexpected results

  • I left the Valley believing that we won't struggle over the course of the season - that Chrissy is the best man to be our manger and that we were incredibly naive and tactically inpet last night. Yes we deserved to win and didn't get the breaks, but there is more we could have done to have won the three points. Being phlisophical - it is all part of the learning process and hopefully we will be better for it down the line.

Do think you can be critical without calling for sackings though - surely it is what you do on a forum.
  • like i said to my mate last night, so far this season when weve lost a game its been by the odd goal (and the same goes for when we won). to me that shows that we are not being outclassed and out of our depth.

the last two games we have played well, had the majority of the possession and created a few chances. we just didnt take them. i would be more worried if we were being outclassed and being battered every game.

we will be fine. just need to stay calm and the goals (and points) will come. the league is so tight, a couple of wins and we'll climb the table by about 10 poisitions, its ridiculous.

i had no expectations this year. to stay up was all i cared about. im enjoying being in the championship and not the god awful league one.

    COYR!!
  • Spot on L Block.
  • If we end up surviving in the last spot above relegation then I would regard that as success for us this season. Yes we were worthy champions of League 1 but it's a new thing now for the same lads and they need our support now more than ever. Anyone thinking we were going get back to back promotions as a God given right or wiping all sides standing before us like a tsunmai wave before the season started obviously needed their head examining. We were going to find things tough and tough they are. As it stands I do think we will survive and given a healthy run I still think we will be mid-table - it's very achievable. We haven't been shown up in any of the games. We have time still on our side. It isn't March/April yet! Keep the faith fellow Addicks!

Totally agree on everything in this post. If the performances are good, which I think they have been, the results will start to come.
  • It seems we are not getting the rub of the green at all.Rather have that at this stage of the season and hopefully lady luck will be back on our side by the business end!
  • lets move on. until saturday when its likely we'll be defeated and the same old problems arise again. 8-)

Do me a favor with this "rub off the green" you buy your own luck . We haven't been good enough it's as simple as that.
  • we couldn't break down 10 men in 45 minutes that's got nothing to do with luck

What gets me, and I know it's occurred to others hereabouts, is the way it reminds me of those games against 10 men around Christmas just before Parky "moved on". It just feels similar.

With the difference that at least this is in the Champ, I suppose.
