My wife is the friend of Simon Bassey (caretaker manager of AFC Wimbeldon) and i have got to know him quite well. He was telling me that they are thread bare and was desperate to get in a couple of central defenders and midfielders yesterday. He is good friends with CP and was the main reason that Jason Euell went there on loan last season. Came as no suprise when i see this happen yesterday.
Yes, we are keeping our options open which makes sense. We don't want another Danny Shittu or Micahel Turner if we can help it. Would guess this may be one of his last chances though.

There doesn't seem much chance of that, we've been remarkably generous with him considering the level of football he's played so far
He is progressing though, and he has pace and is comfortable on the ball from what I have seen, which are traits that modern centre halfs need. I think we are too quick to dismiss players when they are young, not everyone peaks at 18

In support of what you say it is worth remembering that one Chris Solly esq, partly because of injuries admittedly perhaps, did not establish himself as a league 1 first teamer until the age of 20.
Centre halves do mature later so let's see where we are with Mambo come the end of the season.
Not the last chance saloon at all IMHO. Even if he doesn't make it with us it doesn't mean he can't break through elsewhere. Must have something the coaching staff like otherwise he would have gone already.
Hope he does well there. He is progressing each year, but he's 21 soon, at some point he needs to make an impact at first team level.
Not sure he has pace or is comfortable on the ball - though they are probably Cort's biggest weaknesses, didn't stop him forcing his way into the team.
Makes you appreciate how exceptional Rufus was to get in the team so young- and then stay there!
Not quite true. 5 Charlton players got pro contracts in the same year as Rufus. Linger,Newton, and Sturgess all made the first team years before him, and even Danny Mills (the other one) who only ever made 2 sub appearances got a run out a year before Rufus.
(oh and for the pedants I know that Gray and Aphia also got pro contacts that year but never played)
That Mambo never got a game, even when we were in the 3rd division, isn't a good sign, it's not like a Michael Turner or Shittu struggling to break into a PL team. It was disappointing that he couldn't even find a L2 side last season, he'll finally make his league debut with AFC Wimbledon.
Seeing him in training a couple of times he is a winner, shouting at people, no respect for reputations within the squad, he was ordering everyone about and smashing people left, right and centre also had the right arse when his team lost the 5 a-side.
Maybe that's part of the reason they've kept him, they can see his detemination, grit and will to succeed.

How old was Fortune when he made his debut for us?
