I've been to some crap football grounds and QPR is right up there - how they can justify charging more than a fiver beats me!
Since my employment history became so patchy over the last 3 years, I've been to very few away games. It does come down to cost and the attractiveness of the fixture - assuming I am in work next time we reach the Prem (whenever that may be), I would probably go to 2 or 3 aways.
Prices are scandalous, yes. Just have to pick and choose - down to circumstances at any given time (same for me now, really).
But what I wouldn't look forward to is sitting in my allocated seat at The Emirates surrounded by Arsenal fans and Plastics who had got tickets (from Charlton ST holders, presumably), or Anfield being asked by a woman next to me what our songs mean. In other words selling out our allocations at the expense of real fans as when last in the Prem (OK, those two are rare as we *did* sell out). Would be a lot better if it was unreserved seating at times like that - just not enjoyable otherwise.
Come to think of it, there aren't many times when we do sell out, so I spose those two games just stuck in my mind - but the same would apply if we had a great cup run (I can dream!!!)
Good thread tho. I did pay £35 to see Dennis in the last minute, but drew the line at Chelsea away. And glad when we battled for a draw, and just cos they won the league, Lampard fell over Fortune outside the box in the last few minutes, and of course was awarded a penalty.
Just to add to what I said above, how much I would be paying for my CAFC season ticket would also have a bearing on how many aways I decided to go to. There's only so much of your income that you can justify spending on football - my first priority is to get to the home games, so if I use up all the money I'm prepared to spend on that I won't go to any away games.
It is surely only a matter of time before people say enough is enough and clubs will HAVE to reduce prices. Man Utd charged something like £45 for their league cup game with Newcastle last week, ridiculous. Read somewhere the other week that a season ticket to Borussia Dortmund costs less than the top priced ticket to just TWO Arsenal home games.

Been thinking that for just over a decade, never seems to happen though, or at least not at certain clubs. The big clubs seem to have a waiting list of people willing to step in if someone decides they don't wanna pay anymore, and the likes of West Ham and latterly QPR seem to getting away with charging a fortune to watch rubbish on the pitch. Just relieved I was born a Charlton fan, I'd struggle to pay what some of my mates do for season tickets at Arsenal, West Ham and Spurs.

Are attendances down across the board this year ? Feels like it but not sure if it's true. When they start to decline then they'll do something, but not a moment sooner.
I'm not sure many clubs have a waiting list any more. United were still advertising season tickets for sale on their website a week before the season started. How long will Arsenal fans be happy to keep paying ridiculous prices but not actually winning anything?

My mate was on the Arsenal waiting list for 6 years. Finally got a S/T and is paying £900 in one of the worst seats in the ground.
Thank your lucky stars you're not into ice hockey - £95 per game (before taxes & fees) walk up to see the Calgary Flames in a decent seat. Season Ticket is £3000 - mind you, you get 41 home games for that (and no life).

Steering my kids well clear of this game.
Wow, That puts it in perspective. Truly an astonishing amount of money to go and watch your team play a sport. I guess the hockey players are like our football players then? Paid megabucks, looked up to by kids, in the papers all the time etc?
Edit: Noticed that I've assumed you're overseas - am I correct? If those are the prices for here then thats shocking!
Been offered a ticket for the North London Derby in the Cameldome at face value this morning as one of my mates cant make the game.
£62 (and thats without the booking fee Spurs bung on top!)
Think that will be the straw that breaks the Camel's back for a lot of the regular Spurs support. I winced at paying £45 to watch Spurs v AC Milan in the Champions League a couple of season's back. I renewed my club membership to keep my place on the ST waiting list this season but since then, I've made the decision that enough is enough and this is going to be the last time I renew. I've got a million and one other things I could be spending my money on. Yeah, watching most of the games at home on Sky will never be the same as being there but what choice do most have nowadays?
I know a couple of my friends that have been ST holders for years are thinking the same at the moment and are looking at renting their STs out next season.
I'd be interested in the views of those that travel regularly / semi regularly to away games.
Just looking at a few forthcoming games, I see that West Ham are being charged 54 and 48 quid for their forthcoming visit to Spurs, Reading 44 for the visit to Liverpool, and Arsenal 44 - 56 quid for Man U. I think clubs like QPR are now charging 40-45 quid.
Wouldn't put myself in the regular traveller category now, so interested in you guys thoughts.
Is it worth the promotion ?
We won't be going up for a while so not too concerned at the prices!
Not fussed if we don't go up one bit. For me football is about watching my team live - end of. If the team are successful then great but I'm not in it for that - I'd support someone else if that was all that mattered.
I'd rather watch us live in champ - non league than on tv in the Prem.
I was going to mention Spurs being charged £62 for Arsenal away but Johnboy beat me to it - disgusting!! Only football would allow such inflation.
Moldova v England was £6 last month. Poland away next month is £30. Yet Ipswich v Charlton is £34!!!!
I've just been promoted and now have to travel an hour and a half each way to work at a different location, so I think I can fairly say that it is a mixed blessing, with both positive and negative aspects.
One thing i have noticed siginificantly this season is parking at away grounds. last season at the likes of rochdale, bury, oldham, hartlepool, tranmere, hudds, scunthorpe, etc parking within 500 metres of the ground is the norm and a ticket around £20 who's not going to go. To watch a team win more than they will lose, (to watch a team win more than they will lose or draw) it was an easy decision. This season at forest parking was a mare, drove around for nearly half an hour. Not sure what it will be like at pool on sat but at £24 for a match i'm not complaining. Cost is only part of the issue, but i wouldn't want to be paying £50+ to travel when a season ticket gives you an average match price of £20 or less.
I'm sure our owners are very disappointed with ticket sales at the Valley so far this season but prices have got out of hand.
Arsenal for example build a new ground a picked a 60,000 capacity knowing they could probably sell 80,000 each week. I guess clubs like surplus demand so they can charge silly prices. It is no wonder atmospheres are terrible these days. The real fans simply cannot afford to go anymore.

It was once said by a famous footballer the problem is all the "real" fans have been priced out of Football so you just end with the daytrippers and corporate fans who lack the ability to create atmosphere within a ground.
To be fair I think £25 to come along to the Valley is steep. £15 adult, £5 kids - simple.
I can't imagine tickets sales actually make much of a difference to the clubs finances so why not trial it. Can't imagine they were expecting attendances as low as 15,000 for Watford on a Tuesday

Midweek games don't help, especially when there's Champions League football live on ITV1...
I was chatting to a Saints supporter on his way to their 6 - 1 defeat at the Emirates, his ticket was £21 and his sons a fiver I was surprised it was so cheap, a joke that the spurs tickets are so expensive though.
On balance I would rather not be back I L1 next season with cheaper tickets and easy parking. I will worry about PL ticket prices if we ever grace that league again. Fortunately last time we were there the away tickets in the northern grounds were far cheaper than your Arsenals and Chelseas. In fact I don't think I paid more than £30
