  • You would have put money on any other player on the pitch taking the chance at least pardew has now seen his ability for himself should be the last time we have to pay to see him even if it was just ten pounds. Guarantee he will come back for somebody and score against us though.
  • Who else would want him??
  • sort of player who will always get a contract somewhere for some reason
  • Lisbie should have done better but fid you see Fabregas's miss?
  • no should we be signing him
  • i suppose on the positive side if Lisbo had scored that goal he would be signing a new 8 year contract on Monday

lets be grateful for small mercies

Curbs will be in for him in the summer. ;-)
  • Had a fiver at half time on charton to win the match @ 30/1. easy come easy go.

Had £2 at 40/1 on us to score three and them to score none in the second-half. Ho-hum....
  • Its a TEAM game people and as a TEAM we were woeful in that first half, that is why we did not win the game, not because Lisbie missed in the last minute.

For their first goal Fortune allowed Priskin to get a cross into a danger zone when he should obviously have blocked him or forced him to cross from a less dangerous angle - terrible defending. That's not even mentioning El Kak's succession of giveaways that led up to the goal.

For the second, Sankofa gets caught ball watching an innocuous cross from Smith and Francis gets an absolute gift at the back post.

We should have been going in 0-0 or, at worse 1-0 down at half-time so putting so much blame on Lisbie's miss is blinding ourselves to the real problem that we have had for much of the season - pure bad defending.

Like I have said on here before, the key to survival is going to be clean sheets and if Bougherra and Thatcher can come back and get us six clean sheets in these last nine games (five of them at home) then we must have a great shot at getting close to 40 points.

  • spot on Ormiston. Blame Lisbie if you like but equally blame the whole team in the first half when we were poor all over the pitch and didn't get going. Also blame Pards. Ashton should have played left back. Sankofa, no fault of his as he did best as he could out of position, isn't a left back and did it show.
  • Had my usual H/T F/T reverse bet at 22's.

I dont mind super Kev but he did get a few choice words out of me when he sliced that chance.

reason Lisbie played: Pards fancies him he said so himself.. lol
  • shocking defending
  • Meh, the guy sitting behind my literally smashed my chair in half when Lisbie screwed that shot up. The back of my chair was literally in 4-5 pieces.

Thank god I was standing up or that could have been my head!!

I think thats a bit harsh on Sankofa, as he had to cover across in the middle because our central defence (well, El Karkouri) got dragged out of position, meaning that it was Fortune and Sankofa against three Watford players. Sankofa did quite well to get in between two Watford players but couldnt get to the cross so it looked like Francis was left free at the back. If anyone was caught ballwatching it was Fortune who if you look at the goal, let a Watford player get in front of him.

I think it was a whole back four at blame for that goal not just Sankofa!

i agree on the defensive errors in general though. I think theres something about Fortune which means unless he has someone to tell him where to go and what to do, he can make these mistakes in postioning. In other words, playing alongside someone similar in El Karkouri doesn't bring out the best in him.
  • Well, yeah, I guess Sankofa was not solely at fault but no PL defence should ever really concede a goal like that with the ball hit in from that sort of angle, it was woeful defending.
  • El Karkouri is a liability still in my opinion. That overhead kick he attempted early on that he missed and let Priskin in on goal was diabolical. A simple bass back to Carson was all that was needed.
Fortune and Sankofa just aren't good enough at this level.
Young - Diawara - Bougherra - Thatcher has to be the way forward.

I agree, apart from the minor detail that only 1/4 of them where available on Saturday and he played.
  • Yes i'm aware of that, but we don't play for 2 weeks so hopefully they'll all be fit.

  • I've just seen the highlights for the first time - on Valley Vision- and I must say that I was surprised at how much Lisbie's misses were overstated. I'd imagined far worse than that. I actually think he did quite well for the first attempt - he didn't lose his nerve and tried to maximise his chances. The second effort should have been on target but I've seen much worse. Sorry Kev - I said I'd forgive you if it wasn't as bad as it sounded. Please practise your shooting a bit though -eh?
  • I agree. The way people on here and on NA have been crucifying him has been disgraceful in my book. No way were they open goals.
How many full games has the guy played since the Liverpool hattrick? Arsenal at home, where he played very well by all accounts, I can't think of too many more full appearances since Liverpool. I think the reason people get so frustrated with him is because in almost every game he plays, he gets in at least one situation where he is one on one with the keeper. He gets into these goal scoring positions by using his speed, skill and anticipation. Unfortunately most times he messes up, because he is not a natural striker and he is very much a confidence player. Unfortunately every time he starts scoring he either gets injured or ill, so despite his many years at the club, has never really got going.
Given a run he could be a great partner for DB, he may even score more than big Bent or JFH. One thing is for sure he will never acheive anything so long as so many give him such unjustified stick.
As for him a being sh*t footballer, I think the fact that Paulo Di Canio named him as being the most talanted player at the club dispels that myth.
  • agree. no one seems to have mentioned the one on one that db had with the keeper and it curled out for almost a throw in.

there was a horrific miss by some top club strikers this weekend, however, they, along with bent score 1 chance in 5. lisbie got 10 mins at the end of that game and missed one chance in 1.

hardly fair to string him up.

yes its frustrating that he's been around for so long and seems to never cut the mustard. the stats are useless, as it doesn't always work that in so many minutes of football you should score so many goals, especially if he only gets 10 mins here and there with long injury spells in between. hardly comparable. he's been very very unlucky, and are the club really that stupid and compassionate to just let him get paid week in week out if he wasn't that good? where is lloyd sam?
  • The initial response is understandable because it was so last gasp, I was shouting "Bloody Lisbie" at the radio - but there were Bent and Holland did worse in the same game - and as for our "defence"!

So the stick is way,way over the top... but you have to admit the young kid missed a chance to become a full-time hero.

Agree with you 100% Salad. The stick that Lisbie gets is disgraceful. So much for some of our "supporters" getting fully behind the team.
