Handshakes

edited September 2012 in General Charlton
Well done to Anton Ferdinand for not shaking John Terry or Ashleyu Coles hand.

If theres two things I can't stand in this world its people who mishear abusive comments
like John Terry
and people who tell the truth in a court of law like Ashley Cole.

  • They should get rid of the handshake before the game, it's more trouble than it's worth.
  • There's a few I'd like to shake by the neck ...

Agree. What a load of old tosh it is.

What's ridiculous is that it gets so much coverage - was even on the main news ffs!

A man doesn't shake another mans hand. This isn't a snub from one world leader to another, this is two over-paid footballers with any overblown view of their own self worth.
  • The Get on with the Game (GOWTG) programme was launched at the beginning of the 2008/09 season and is the Premier League's response to The Football Association's wider Respect agenda.

GOWTG focuses on limiting unacceptable behaviour within the game, especially towards Match Officials, but it is also about building positive working relationships between players, coaches and managers and referees from Professional Game Match Officials (PGMO). GOWTG has been a success, with the number of cautions awarded for dissent being reduced by just under half since its introduction.

Not really working is it? Might as well just get rid of this totally pointless exercise
  • Nothing wrong with handshakes before a game.

The problem is with the people that cause the controversy in the first place (Terry/Suarez/Evra/Ferdinand) to the point where they end up in court. Isn't it strange how you don't get such issues in the Football League?

Surely they should have the choice to shake hands after when their swapping shirts etc. Before is pointless.
  • Scrap it, it should never have been implemented in the first place.
Its a meaningless gesture without any feelings.
If there is a time to shake hands and hug its at the end of the game.

Totally agree with this. Manly handshake after the game if your opponents have earned it.

Steven Gerrard is about to shake hands at Chelsea and the Chelsea man removes his hand and look how Gerrard retaliates....

  • thats genius
  • There's literally hunreds of handshakes every week. A couple have gone wrong and the media blows it up. Really, does it matter?
  • As far as i see it, Anton Ferdinand has lost a lot of respect from me, why not be grown up and shake terry's hand and get on with what your paid to do.

What John Terry done was disgusting, but just because there's a dispute between the two, the respectful handshake's is now in jepardy .
  • Very poor from Ferdinand in my opinion.

Needs the grace to move on, its in the public now that Terry said nothing wrong. And to not shake Coles hand because he backed up his mate is even more pathetic.
Don't blame Terry for having a few words with him, he lost the England captaincy because of these claims don't forget.

Him and Rio have been made to look very childish in the past few weeks.
  • Not sure if I was Ferdinand and knew for certain that Terry did say what he later denied just to save his skin that I would be prepared to shake his hand. Of course Terry didn't say it so it's ok.
  • No idea what Ashely Cole's done to merit what Ferdinand did. Cole testified that he didn't think John Terry was a racist and as a result Ferdinand won't shake his hand? Insane. It's like playground behaviour only for the whole world to see, which makes it very very sad
  • I don't agree with the whole hand shaking thing in the first place. Like someone said earlier, an opponent should earn a handshake through respect on what happens on the pitch.
  • If a martial arts competitor refused to bow to their opponent they simply wouldn't be allowed to take part, a good example.

  • Thing is Ferdinand said he never knew that Terry had said Black so and so on the pitch, it was only when he got home and his girlfriend showed him the video that he actually was made aware of what Terry was supposed to have said.

So he never heard anything at all, its merely an argument pursued on video footage he saw and now believes.

    Great comparison.

    Agreed

  • Really hate John Terry but he's come out more of a man than Ferdinand imo .
