Charlton / Palace Groundshare news reports - Video

  • This should be added to the palace millwall rivalry thread

I know it's 25 years ago but this is why I detest palace more than millwall

    Never forget, grim grim days
  • I still hate seeing images of those portakabins.

Anyone got any other related videos ?

Sadly, I have hours of tv clips video taped from the closing of the East Terrace onwards. Arguably the catalyst for our move.

  • Saw my first games at Sellout Park......made the first game back at The Valley all the more poignant. Watching the vids gives a little reminder what it must've been like for our fans having the turfed carpet pulled from underneath. Never again!!!
  • That's a proper London bowl the long haired fella who swerves round the copper at 0.19 ha ha.

Haven't heard from Tav lately on here but I hope he watches that video.

That was his best man giving it a proper bowl.

    LB?

How thin was the sword on the Charlton badge! A very timely post, its easy to forget how desperate those days were and we should never forget them despite our more recemt premiership days. History is not always about good times, its what shapes us all and for Charlton its whats makes us unique. These two clips show exactly why tomorrow night is not just another game whether they care or not.

Totally agree wth you until your last sentence. Bit of ignorance on my part but what is it exactly that Palace did to us?
Is it the administrative stuff - they made us use temporary offices? I'm sketchy on the details so genuinely would like to know.

    Certainly was.

Shame he dosen't seem to go anymore.

He was always a good laugh.

  • "As a Charlton supporter, and I've come here for 20 years, I don't think I'll be going to Crystal Palace "

Where is this Addick now ?

That is my uncle, oh if he sees this again he will be cringing, he went on to Selhurst and Upton Park, still at the valley over in the east
  • Brilliant stuff, and I remember why I wept like a baby the day we returned home and I saw the lads beat Portsmouth.
  • Oh Lennie - what happened? Your still at the craphole and were in SE7, bloody shame....

Didn't we lose 1-0 to WHU and the match was the first live Sunday game on one of our then 3 channels?

Bloke with the bowl coming out of the ground is hilarious, sees the copper standing and decides to act all Mr Large.

Cant argue with any of that lol
  • Just makes me realise what a bunch of wankers those Palace really are. Horrible times.
  • Any chance we can change the thread title ? Gives me heart attack every time I log onto Charlton life
  • Valley 11...no it wasn't just the portakabins. It was everything about it. Maybe you had to be there ( not being patronising). 6 years of utter frustration, it seems like a lifetime ago.
It's why I despise palace anyway and can't wait for tomorrow.
  • When the only contact we had with Charlton was The Valley Club, would often have a drink and a chat in there with Mike Bailey.Watched most off the games at Selhurst during those years and can only say that all Charlton fans only had one goal to see football return to The Valley.

I had two season tickets there and do remember feeling like a second class citizen but was that palace fans' fault? Not so sure. Im sure they weren't chuffed having to share their ground. I'd hate lodgers at The Valley.
Still hope we beat them tomorrow though.

Whether it was the fans or the chairman they all represent Crystal Palace the football club and it's them
that tried to strangle our beloved Charlton. So yes, it's them I blame and it's them I hate.
  • Exactly se9addick. Their fans weren't exactly sympathetic to our plight or cause were they.
  • Fair enough. I was young in the selhurst days so didn't experience all the pain of leaving the valley. I do rem palace fans being smug. But I think we're just better than them in every sense so they don't bother me. Plus got some good mates who are palace fans.
    Anyway, up the addicks!
