edited September 2012 in General Charlton
What do you all think about the continuing trend of referring to Chris Powell as Sir or SCP?

Each to their own, its harmless enough
  • One day this question will no longer apply as it will be his formal title.
  • Fine. It came about from talk a few years back that he was being nominated for a knighthood if I remember correctly, and it just seems to have stuck. Just rolls off the tongue!
  • The Queen may not have knighted him yet but we have.
  • Not a fan of it tbh but I'm not going to actively tell people its wrong
  • I don't use the title personally, but nothing against those that do. And I agree that one day it will be official..........................................
  • It's a bit strange.
  • It's silly unless you haven't reached voting age (IMHO).
  • Never been a fan of it.

There is a real possibility that he will be knighted one day. His work with the PFA, and his services to football in general might give him a real chance.

What is sad, however, is that should he be given this award it will then be meaningless as he has already been given this title by a group of (sorry but it's my view) immature football fans.

There are a couple of other points I would make (just in case I haven't offended enough people yet) one is that the same title was given (presumably by the same people) to Alan Pardew, which kind of belittles it in my view. The other point is that (cash for honours aside) most people that are knighted have done something spectacular to earn it. Alex Ferguson, for example, had won three Scottish League Titles, four Scottish FA Cups, a Scottish League Cup, five Premier League Titles, four FA Cups, a League Cup, The UEFA Cup, the European Cup Winners Cup, and a European Cup (Champions League) - including the treble, before he was knighted.

I love Chris Powell (Doctor Powell, thanks to his honorary degree), and he has made a massive difference since he came back to manage us, but I, personally, find all this Sir Chris Powell nonsense embarrassing and immature.

Just my view, of course, it wouldn't do for us all to agree about everything.

  • Harmless fun and says more about people if they have a big issue with it.
  • I dont use it as im to lazy to type the extra word but I think its decent. Find it pathetic that people have a problem with it
  • I suppose this proves I'm childish but knowing it winds some people up so much makes me want to use it more...
  • i've never claimed to be a grown up and long may that continue
  • It is a verbal version of the we are not worthy bow and shows the high esteem he is held in. Can't see how anybody can be offended by it!

    epic troll
  • Immature 64 year old ...that's me !

I'll always use "SCP" regardless of what others think.

Those who don't like the title, can therefore decide for themselves what the "S" stands for....

    Super ?

Oh , of course not ! Already been used for our Clive.

  • I think you are way off the mark there Oriental, although I do not agree with Kings Hill I do not have him down as a troll.

Agreed. If you're worrying about that, you have no worries.

I always felt it was wrong to refer to "Super" Clive Mendonca before his parents on Krypton had fully endowed him with such powers...
  • It is a verbal version of the we are not worthy bow and shows the high esteem he is held in. Can't see how anybody can be offended by it!

    That is very embarrassing

agreed with this, a lot of people on this forum are just miserable

Very immature? For a bunch of people who come on an internet forum to discuss the relative merits of blokes kicking a ball around? Jesus, take a look at yourself!

Dear God, give me the power to punch people over the internet. People are GENUINELY annoyed by it? What the hell is wrong with some of you..

Completly Disagree, it is a nice and fun way to let people who you respect no from a crowd, some people are way to serious.
