Sentimental Fool that I am

edited September 2012 in General Charlton
I was thinking today about Robbo.Curbs first signing. The goal against Man Utd,the spat with Kilbane and then belly bouncing the linesman.I do not think he has been down to our club since he left
It would be great if at every home game the club would invite a "legend" to be an honoured guest.Lets not let them be airbrushed from our memory.

  • A good idea, its always a pleasure when old players return. There was a pre-season game during the Prem years at The Valley which I think was counted as Robbo's testimonial, or was certainly a game played in his honour which he was at and may have played in, I remember him leading the teams out, so he has definately been back since leaving. But it would certainly be good to see him and other legends a bit more frequently.
  • Cheers mate.I guess in your case it would be Dennis!
  • He now lives in America, which is probably why we've hardly seen him since he left
  • Another good question would be - if you could airbrush something from our history, what would it be? - for me it would be the appointment of Iain Dowie
  • I'm sure I have seen him since he left - came on the pitch at half-time - don't ask me for details though!
  • Oh yes Dowie most definitely. He certainly had an eye for a player didn't he.Pouso. hmmm.
  • Don't think he was Curbs first signing.

Garry Nelson or Steve Gatting I believe.

Can't remember which off the top of my head.

One of my favourite Charlton memories involves Robinson. 2-0 down to Ipswich early on and he makes an absolutely crunching tackle/foul right near me, which wakes both the players and the crowd up. We end up winning 3-2. Loved that match.

  • We used to take bets on how long he'd be on the pitch before his first card.
  • Len - according to Curbs' book, Gatting arrived two days before Nelson.
