I was one of the few who liked the competition as it could have seen us have a realistic prospect of a trip to Wembley.
I also liked the fact that we could play some fringe players
I am actually going to Rotherham tonight to visit their new ground as part of my 92 quest.
Looks like a tidy little ground. Not sure if it is as good as Chesterfield. Great transport link to motorway though. Parking probably not the best as it's mainly industrial area with yellow lines around local streets and the nearest housing area is the WORST in Rotherham, dare is say South Yorkshire. I used to live there so feel entitled to have a view. A good curry restaurant opposite ground though. The ground is only 200 yards from town centre so plenty of pubs for those that like a beer and a punch up! (Not necessarily in that order)
I liked the competition, and we should have really made more of a challenge of winning it considering we were better than 100% of all other eligible teams last season.
I don't really understand the common view. We have little or no chance of winning a competition that has the top Premeir League sides in it, yet we shun the competition we could win.
For all the threads complaining about how Sky et. al. have 'destroyed' competition in English football, we hate the one trophy that most of those that enter can qualify for the final in. I would have loved a day out at Wembley and I agree with Richard J.
The way we all knocked the JPT I often wondered why so many didn't just give up following us and support Man Utd or Chelsea.
to enter the JPT we had to be at our lowest ever playing level not something i'd really want to see us taking part in, due to it meaning we're shit (for us) but i love Charlton and did go to some JPT matches including mk dons away so no i wont go and support man u or chels

It looks far better than Chesterfields identiket ground. The stands are very steep which should provide great views.
Some games were enjoyable, like the Barnet home game but it's not something I miss!

Firstly Eaststandmike I am not 'wishing' that we compete in the Competition again and I agree with the others who have said they hope we never stoop so low again . I guess my disappointment was that it would have been good to have got to Wembley whilst we played at that level.
That said , I was disappointed we bowed out of the Capital One Cup so early because I would like to have seen the likes of Button and Dervite play in a competetive game before they need to make their league debut .The one drawback of the JPT is this stupid rule that 6 players need to be first teamers.
Feedback from last night.
Rotherham kept their big guns Nardeillo ,Noble and Pringle on the bench and York caught them on a sucker punch breakaway for their 1-0 win . Pringle looked excellant when he came on .He was the player that most caught my eye .
I used to be a bit of a romantic when it came to the old stadiums ,but for me Millmoor reminded me of the Old Den in so much as it was bordered by railway tracks and scrap yards and it wasn't a friendly place to visit .The locals love telling the story of how in 03 / 04 the newly relegated West Ham refused to change in the ground and came kitted up straight from their team's hotel .
My three visits to the ground in the Eighties saw Charlton soundly beaten on each occasion with our future player Ronnie Moore being the main architect of our demise ,he is still fondly remembered by a big tribute picture of him prominent on the now disused Millmoor Pub .The old Liverpool legend Emlyn Hughes was player manager on at least one of our visits and the guy next to me remembered Simonsen being in our line up one time once when we pitched up there.
Surprisingly ,Millmoor after four years of disuse is surprisingly good nick and the pitch is still maintained .It is an absolute tragedy that the Millers needed to move at all to the Don Valley for four seasons .The land around the old ground is now used as a car park on match days.Apparently there was a dispute between the club's old owner the scrap metal dealer Ken Booth and the new owners. It is difficult to see what the site could be used for in the future apart from scrap yards
However , the New York Stadium is impressive and is much better than Millmoor and I am afraid despite my nostalgia I could not argue against the move.Like Brighton's Amex Stadium it has been designed in such a way that it can be extended .
Everyone I spoke to was delighted by it because unlike many other new grounds the club have maintained a town centre presence which is a ten minute walk from Rotherham Central Train Station . If anything it is slightly more central than Millmoor was.
Unlike a lot of new stadiums it does have unique features and I prefered it to the likes of Chesterfield and Colchester which are virtually identical and as others have said they almost resemble flat packs .
In all I am glad I made the effort to go ,the football wasn't brilliant but the teams were well matched and York scored an excellant goal , considering that Rotherham are virtually selling out all of their league games ,this seemed to be my best chance of getting in and paying on the gate .

I agree with you. In the two more positive seasons, 09/10 and 11/12, I hoped we'd use it to blood some young players and fringe players, get a bit of luck, then get a Wembley final and some money in the coffers

Anyway, Southend (local for me) was a great day and we'l probably be back in it at the start of next season.
Fair play to Pompey and that Bell idiot. Even when the ground is empty and they lose every week, they still turn out an atmosphere.
Ps. Francis and McClown on the same pitch. Bet @northstandsteve is enjoying it !

great name for a stand!!
Talking of the bottom two divisions, it's nice of Hartlepool to show us what our home shirt would look like if we wore navy blue.
