I think it makes sense , attacking the Covered End improves the atmosphere in the first half and the second half atmosphere is normally decent no matter which way we are attacking as things are coming to a climax and the game gets exciting. Give a better all round atmosphere in my opinion. I don't think we lost whilst playing that way round last season and therefore believe we should stick with it for the time being.
Perhaps due to the way the site works and the really naff quote system i'm reading it wrong, but how do you know no Charlton skipper has elected to kick towards the north stand in the first half.?
You can see us change ends and then who kicks off. If we win the toss we never change round. This is done 'primarily' so that we can kick towards our home fans in the second half which at 'all grounds' is the norm and considered to the home sides advantage...and everyone knows that? I have never before seen a Charlton skipper 'intentionaly' do otherwise and I can confidently say that for me it's a first. I'm not 'that' bothered but it's not something I'd do and does make me slightly nervous for some strange reason....I'm certain I'm not alone in feeling that. For younger fans it probably has far less significance.
I hope your right. It makes me feel nervous too. Having said that we do get better results kicking towards the north in the first half. Don't like it one bit though.
Well, Dany N Guessan wont be signing for us now Soundas has used up our quota of apostrophes. Its such a shame, Im gutted to be honest, were going to suffer because of it and its all your fault!
I'd like JJ to do it again until we fail to win a game, just another quick question, the penalties against Orient the other night, were they taken at the North end? If so, maybe it's time to change that routine
Last season, I think we kicked towards The Covered End more often that not in the 1st half. I say that because I remember remarking upon it last season.
No way CE....though it did happen more than normal I'll grant you that...I'd say 5 or 6 times max....believe you me it's a daft little thing that for no apparent reason I watch out for, almost like it's part of a long tradition.
Unless they have changed the rules recently, the cpatian who wins the toss can either choose ends OR decide to kick off first. It just is that it is better to choose ends so the loser of the toss kicks off but doesnt have to be
Noticed that we won the toss and chose ends, as Burnley had ko first half. I presume this was for us to get the crowd going with wave after wave of attacks first half ?

It's not a recent rule change. The winning captain chooses which end to play, the other team kicks off. It's in the Laws of the Game.
Its part of the preparations of winning against the Spanners (they know we prefer to kick toward the cupboard end in the second half) a they always seem to win the toss and choose start the match kicking towards JS stand. FACT.

The 4 games against Millwall since we returned in 92 have seen Millwall kicking towards the Jimmy Seed stand in the 1st half once. FACT

Prove it JohnnyH2 & Solidgone ! ;-)
Since you asked:-
93/94 First 10 seconds Newton gets laid out by Van Den Hawue when Newton was chasing aback pass in front of the JS. 94/95 Rae scores at the Covered End to give them the lead, Robbo gets the equalizer in the second half. Both goals scored at the Covered End. 94/96 We take in the lead in the first half through Bowyer at the JS end. 09/10 They do attack the JS end first half
