Glad to see some people are willing to get behind the team rather than write them off before a ball is kicked.
Really disappointed in some fans we have. After a record breaking season we had the chance to really elevate ourselves as supporters with high confidence, but it mostly seems to have gone the opposite direction.

not writing the team off but we needed to strengthen in certain areas but have not done so. Even CP has said this. The annoying thing is we were all on a high from last season but the shenanigins during the close season have deflated a lot of us and you can only feel that with the feel good factor we had a chance to push on but that chance seems to have evaporated. We won't get relegated but imo a chance of a tilt at the play offs is unlikely.

Just don't get that.
It is called giving an honest opinion, what is wrote on a forum has little impact. I've set out some reservations above, yet when in the ground you will not hear of a more supportive, encouraging supporter than me.
Who cares what's happened, fact is we're in a division above where we were last year, got a decent young team and a manager we can all get behind. Really don't mind about getting in playoffs straight off, think its a bit ridiculous to expect it tbh. Who knows, we might even surprise ourselves!
You can choose your perspective on things, give yourself a break and look forward
Well the transfer window hasn't closed yet and I wouldn't be suprised if he brings in one or two more to strengthen the squad. I have been concerned about the dangers of making too many changes and am happy that hasn't happened for whatever reasons. Lets give these players the chance to show what they can do FFS.
I'm not sure why anyone would be happy that Powell hasn't been able to sign his targets?
I also don't see how 2/3 squad players and 2/3 first team players would be too many changes? That's just normal progression.
The defence was excellent last season. The midfield was good but has some obvious weaknesses. Players may improve but they're not going to change those weaknesses into strengths.
We will do ok, might even get off to a great start, but eventually we'll need to improve a few positions. I think it's clear Powell was hoping to do that this summer.
I for one is delighted, that the club has stood still and blown the momentum and good will from Promotion, in fact I'll shake Mr Jimenez by the hand on Tuesday for his sterling work

In the event that he doesn't have the money to strengthen (irrespective as to the reason) I can't see how we could have done more to take advantage of the momentum from Promotion.
I'm not terribly excited about not adding the three or four players we needed to maintain a promotion push and I feel your frustration but I'd rather be where we are than be spending money that we don't have like Pardew did.

Ridiculous post, I'll be up there on Saturday backing the lads 100% but I'm allowed an opinion and mines is that we haven't given Powell the tools he needs for us to be competitive. I wouldn't want Charlton to win any less just so I can be proven right on an Internet message board. In fact, I hope I'm proven wrong!
And I have to say, anyone who doesn't think the championship is a huge step up from that pub league we've been playing in is going to see on Saturday how ignorant they are.
As you say se9...we're all entitled to our opinion and I'll see if I am ignorant towards the latter part of the season, rather than jumping to one conclusion or another on Saturday. Seems there's more than one ridiculous post here.
Well done for your positivity but imo the chance was there to push on and @ best we have stood still Well done to the helms @ the helm
"Helms" without whom we would probably have gone out of business or be "looking forward" to visits to new grounds at Cheltenham and Aldershot or even in a lower division even further away from the world changing top flight.
Massive short memories and lack of gratitude on here towards the board who have got us out of the depressing quagmire of tier 3 football and potential financial obliteration in one season and changed things for the better on and off the pitch and got in one of the most inspirational managers in my memory and a hungry talented squad of players with lots of desire, comitment and potential.

Come on SE9, the team we're playing just missed out on promotion last season so is one of, if not the, strongest in the Championship! I'd judge after 10 games and if we don't get 15 points then it's time to fret! I'm confident that we will get more.

Yeah. But without the likes of Varney and Kavanagh we would have achieved nothin!
Whatever happens at least we're not in Leagie one this season, you can't always get what you want, I wanted an iPad last Christmas and ended up with socks and a scarf, we were spoilt rotten last year, when was the last time we saw Charlton get over 100 points in a season, Never!
Let's get behind the lads, yes I would have liked 4/5 quality signings to push on , but it ain't happened, in the famous words of BDL, let's get behind the boys and make some noise!

Maybe so. Yes there are obviously issues (as well documented on here over the recent months) but without plating them too much the new board for all their alleged faults have for me restored the pride back into the club.
To refer to them as "helms" seems massively unjustified. We wouldn't dream of being so derogatory to previous board members (and rightly so) despite the fact that their tenure sadly ended in such a humiliating fall from grace which showed no evidence of ceasing from worsening despite best efforts and intentions.
And if the new board are "helms" then it doesn't put in a good light those who sold/ oversold the club to the new lot really does it? As we know it was sold with best intentions to the new board members and I'm sure the new board have the best intentions for the club as that is the only way they would ever see a return on their investment.
Without them we'd probably be p1ssing and moaning about parking spaces in morecombe and away attendences at Nuneaton Borough rather than discussing whether we can consolodite this year/ push for the Premiership.
Thanks B...been called that and a few others a few times! Must remember not to throw myself under the train on the way back tomorrow if we don't win!! ;-)
The best piece of business SCP has done this pre season is keeping hold of our best players, ie solly, yann, morro, wiggins etc especially with the rumoured financial problems. I am optimistic for the new season and think we will sneak in the playoffs
I have my fears for the strength of our squad at this higher level but, that said, our players in the main are young and will only get better thereby (hopefully) growing with the Club.
The likes of Pritchard and Wagstaff will work their wotsits off to improve and that kind of attitude gets you a long way.
I'm in the Chris Powell camp with this one. Like Chris I recognise the deficiencies in the team and want to address them by bringing in three or four players to improve what we already have but that hasn't been possible so I like Chris will get on with what we have got including the addition of four more squad players to add to the already burgeoning pool of squad players we already have. If the budget is maxed out as has been suggested then IMHO it would have been far better to have shed some of last years surplus and not sign Wilson, Dervite,Cook or Kerkar and spent that money on one quality player in central midfield that will actually make us a better first team. We are currently carrying far far too many players that have no prospect of getting near the first eleven.
Although I'll admit to being a little disappointed that we've not bought in a few more 'quality' players, I think back to some of the players we had the last time we were in the champ and I think this squad will do ok and hopefully surprise a lot of us.
I dont think the step up is as harsh as some think, especially the sort of teams we will be competing with next season for a comfortable mid table finish(which i will be delighted with) and i will add that is based on seeing nearly every Championship team last year play, as i like to take in a match of any team when im in there area for work and made sure to do the Championship last season as it looked like that is where we would be as the season progressed.
Im not dissagreeing with the fans that say 2/3 more players would of been nice but if we dont have any money i applaud are board for doing what is right for the club even if that is not there motives, as id much rather spend the next 10 years supporting my club in the Championship, then have to spend more years lower because we gambled the future of the club like so many in this division.
It's not perfect but then when has it ever been as a supporter of a real club like Charlton.

This is a good point actually. We'd all have loved for us to have strengthened the team but if the money's not there then it's just as important to hang on to those players that got us here in the first place and so far we have. I'm confident we'll hold our own and won't go down but at the same time feel it's been an opportunity perhaps missed. But rather that then spend, spend, spend and end up staring down the Pompey barrel.

That is where it matters.
I'll still be up there tomorrow shouting with everyone else. Seems you can give an opinion unless it's the one you want to hear.

I really enjoyed Indian Addicks original post, thought it was well written and hopefully positive.

I think that they are just unhappy with the lack of transparency at the very top.
