Millwall/Olympic Article

edited August 2012 in General Charlton
Good read here:

I agree with everything he says about the Olympic vs Football debate by the way. About time somebody stuck up for Football really considering how much abuse it seems to have got the past couple of weeks in light of the games.

  • Good read?

    Nah.
  • That's a decent article. Love the balloons comment.
  • "Didn't know where Charlton were for most of that 16 years"!!!!!!!
    Here's a clue - starts with PL.

    Ha! Typical Millwall, knows nothing.
    :p
  • A decent article, he (or someone at the paper) has a nice writing style, and the main digs were at Palace...
  • Charlton fans are secure enough in their success relative to us & palace to have the Mick taken out of them in good grace - palace fans however will be pissing blood as we speak!
  • Hilarious the way he pretends that he didn't care enough to know for those 16 years, just because he can't stomach the fact that half of that time was spent in the PL.

    Whoops - there's always an exception :)

Yeah, you almost feel as if you've seen that style of writing before, don't you.....

He has to be on drugs that Matt Little, Millwall were in our Shadow for nearly 14 years.

bring on the two bob spanners!
  • Didn't realise they'd signed Karleigh Osbourne , will definitely finish above us.
  • The comment about "that's capitalism my friends" is utter tosh.

Capitalism is about the efficient allocation of resources for maximum financial gain - this is clearly not the case in the PL where top clubs are losing between 50-60 million quid per season.

Players wages are utter, utter madness and the bubble will have to burst one day.
  • Think his comment about not knowing where Charlton were for 16 years has had the desired effect judging by your reactions. A clear bit of bait that is getting nibbles!
  • Quite a good read actually, has it really been that long since we were all in the same division. Lookign forward to our x4 Derby games this season.

I'm amazed so many on here didn't seem to realize that he meant it as a light-hearted joke. He's actually giving bit of a nod to us being a Premier League club for a long spell.
  • Surprised we've even entertained this shit to be honest.

I dunno - I think our games v Birmingham, Leeds, Cardiff, West Ham and of course our European adventure and FA Cup final appearance probably generated millions more words than Charlton's entire stay in the Premier League in the same time period.

I think you underestimate people's fascination with the darker side of football.

At the World Cup in Germany me and mates got talking to the locals, they asked who we all supported, Spurs got an 'oh yeah, Klinsmann', only a few of the older lot had heard of Forest, and when I said 'oh, you wouldn't know them, we're a small club called Millwall' they all started singing no one likes us!

Similar has happened when on a tour of duty in Bosnia in 1998 - locals hadn't heard of the likes of Palace, Charlton, even Villa...but when Millwall was mentioned I had to pose for pictures.

As TLR once said - if Millwall played Spurs on the same night as Charlton or Palace played Arsenal in the cup all the top reporters, tv and neutral fans attention would be focused on The Den.

We're small, we're shit, we have the worst rep in football...but we aren't in anybody's shadow!

I often think that when Charlton or Palace fans quote attendance figures at us.

  • Once I told them I was millwall I had to pose for pictures, Jesus wept.
  • no.1 in Bosnia. F*CK YEAH.
  • No shadows in the sewers.
