Advice for supporters about parking before the upcoming home matches against Leyton Orient, Leicester City and Hull City
Rick Everitt reports
Fans are being advised to take special care when parking around The Valley for Tuesday’s night’s Capital One Cup clash with Leyton Orient (7.45pm) and the following week’s Championship opener with Leicester City.
However, street parking will be available from 5pm for both midweek matches.
And there have been constructive talks with the council about parking for the Hull City match on Saturday, August 25th (3pm). A further announcement is likely next week.
The Royal Borough of Greenwich has put in place extended parking controls over a wide area around the stadium – including unmarked roads - for the entire period from the start of the Olympic Games on July 27th to the end of the Paralympics on September 9th.
These cover all of Charlton, Woolwich and Greenwich, and extend into Blackheath.
But they will have limited effect for the Leyton Orient game next Tuesday night or the Leicester City match on Tuesday, August 21st (7.45pm), because there is two hours’ free parking in designated bays and the restrictions end at 7pm anyway.
Fans will therefore be able to park in bays and in unmarked roads - but not on yellow lines - from 5pm for both these games.
However, as it stands, the controls would apply before and during the Hull game.
There are no Olympic or Paralympic events anywhere on any of the matchdays.
Head of operations Mick Everett said: “We have had a full and frank discussion with the local authority about Hull and they appear to have listened and understood our concerns, for which we are grateful.
“The details are still to be finalised, so it is premature to say the problem has been resolved, but at this stage we wanted supporters to know that we are working together to try to ensure they will be able to park for the game.”
