What you've missed out about Mr Samba on that blog is the fact that the reason he was so good at youth level is because he was probably about 4 years older than the players around him - he had no birth certificate. When the other kids caught up with him he looked crap.
I think the fact the club turned down £500-1m (depending on what source you use) has always played on their mind - the likes of Amoo have been sold to the first bidder since - if good money was offered.
If we had paid 500,000 lira we would have had grounds for complaint, never mind half a million quid. This is the trouble with living in an age of low inflation, it still looks bad seven years later.
To be honest hopefully the tiered academy system will stop these things happening. Very young players can move to bigger clubs without a huge transfer fee and expectation hanging over their heads.
