Mike Bailey John Hewie Peter Reeves Ron Saunders Bob Curtis
Those players summed up what Charlton were about at the time.I would put in Eddie Firmani instead of Ron Saunders who wasn't with us long enough.I had a lot of man love for Eddie Firmani, best player I have seen in a Charlton shirt in fifty one years watching.
Room for them both !! Ron was an absolute die-hard, built like a tank. Eddie was an elegant player but wasn't afraid to get involved. He had so much talent and style, in a word CLASS !! The impact when he returned in Oct 63 and then again in Mar 67 was unforgettable. The (literally) crunch match against Northampton in May 67 showed all sides of his game, but above all supreme skill.
Darren Bent, gave everything for us and without him that season we would have been down a long time before. Love the man, can't wait to play against a team he's in and give him the reception he deserves
Another good one, J Block. The think I liked about Bent is head never went down if he'd miss a sitter. He'd dust himself down and get stuck in again until he did score.
Absolutely this. I remember when we played Blackpool in the cup. He got knocked over, but crawled across the pitch on his hands and knees (this doesn't do justice to the speed he moved) to get to the ball first.
I can't remember how old I was but it was one of my first games. It will live long in my memory.
The first player that came to my mind was Mark Aizlewood. It took him time to win the fans over but when he did there was no other player that could better him.He would and did bleed red and white for Charlton. The fans had a repect for him remember The Valley Club 1985 meeting.True leader of men .
Paul Gorman. He was pretty crap, tbh. But at Charlton we've always loved useless forwards as long as they run after every lost cause and chase balls they're never going to reach.
He became quite a fans favourite coming off the bench and running around like a headless chicken for the last 15-20 mins!
Do me a favour. Nice bloke & all that, but passion ?
He did have a passion for keeping his shorts whiter than white I suppose.
I only ever saw him put in one decent tackle in his whole Charlton career.
Was that the one in the home match against Stoke?
I can't remember Len. I know it was agame at The Valley & we were going through a torrid time & he actually slid in & tackled someone, with a fierce look on his face. I think I nearly fainted & don't remember much else.
I don't recall any other passion, although I do think he did make a few tackles per season. The rest of the time he used to shadow/stand off the player & try and get them to lay the ball off.
I thought Holland was ok & a very nice bloke. But no way passionate in his play.
Anyway, I think a lot of the players mentioned in this thread weren't passionate & most of it's nonsense.
Not great by any means.I remember ShaunNewton breaking down the wing with Brendan O 'Connell trying his best to keep up.Newton scuffed his cross and I remember O'Connell having to race back screaming obscenties at Newton at the same time. Also to be remembered for giving David White a dink at half time for reasons I cannot remember.

I'm now confused as to what the original question means.
Does it mean players who give '110%' in each game, but would do the same if playing for Exeter or Palace... Or does it players who are passionate for the club, who have a real bond for 'their club'
The former would include people like Scott Parker (who left in unfortunate circumstances), HH who played for several clubs and others like Costa who had a short time with us.
The latter are players like Steve Brown, Johnny R, Gritt, Keith Peacock etc who clearly have a passion for the club which goes beyond just giving 100% when on the pitch.

Kish, Gritt, Reeves, Kinsella, Robinson even Semedo and the Sodjes.
