Have to imagine that Gueugnon regret not taking something up front:
Despite being a free agent, Kerkar's former club believed they were entitled to claim for training compensation under FIFA rules, having trained Kerkar for six years up until his 23rd birthday this year.
Their threat to lodge an appeal with the world football governing body for a fee which could have risen as high as £315,000 led to Rangers calling off the deal late in October, with the player effectively unable to play for any club until next season unless the French side dropped their claim.
After discussions between Gueugnon and Rangers, the two clubs arrived at a settlement for the deal to go through which will see Kerkar’s former club receive a portion of any future transfer fee.

Reading a Rangers fan's forum. To begin with it seems they regarded him as useless and a bit of a joke. But as the season progressed quite a few appeared to think he was pretty decent. Aparently though he has a rather clumsy/awkward style! This is of course if he really is on trial with us.
Looks like a safe punt. What's to lose? FC Gueugnon must be gutted.
Reformed in 2011 so likely any sell-on deal went south then, if the old company went bust. Still if we sign him, a friendly next year might be a nice gesture.
Came to rangers on the recommendation of Bougherra (and allegedly to keep him sweet). Hardly kicked a ball , want impressed when I saw him and is no where near good enough for our first team. Was on low wages at Rangers though so maybe a squad option.
