Think it's good news that SCP thinks that JS is not good enough to push Hamer for a first team spot. Not sure whether the Spanish guy is either but in any case I think we can now look forward to seeing us bring in a keeper to keep Ben on his toes at least.
Agree. I thought we might go after Richard Wright when he left Preston. The kind of experienced guy we need IMO.
Read Moneyball on holiday the other week after a recommendation on here ages ago.
The more i see of our transfers the more we seem to be emulating the model used in the book ie signing undervalued players with greater ability/ potential that the market recognises them for.
The Richard Wrights are the exact kind of signings that go against this ie big name players, likely to be overvalued for their ability/ potential and on high wages and the kind of signings I dont want to see. Those type of players contributed to our demise in the Premiership and Championship I think.
Ridiculously little evidence to go on as he barely touched the ball but what the Spaniard did do looked composed and looked like he distrubutes well.
Powell seems to have done more than ok in the transfer market since he came in replacing overrated overvauled squad members with the "who the feck are they?" (for fans not versed in the football league database) signings who have been able to meet the challenge.
Got to agree with this, long may it continue....I hated the kind of player we attracted after relegation from the PL....give me 100%ers any day over a "name".
Isn't the moneyball thingy exactly what Newcastle and our old mucker Pardew are doing at the highest level and so far to a decent degree nailing it I don't think they're running at too big a loss A mate bumped into Ashleys son @ Cheltenham and he said they'd be selling Tiote if they could this summer and they were looking to run them on a more even keel rather than pissing money away like most clubs , I don't know if he has left
I agree. Newcastle have certainly done well, replacing high earners like Nolan and the odious Barton with young talent like Cabaye etc. A lot of the credit must go to Graham Carr and I see they gave him an 8 year contract recently.
So far as Charlton is concerned, we're going to have to be a bit cute in the transfer market, given the number of big clubs in the Championship and the level of investment that's come into the division in the last 6-12 months. Some of the new owners will lose momentum and interest but, short term, they will be hard to compete with on wages if we have to go head to head for a player

earlier this summer left Preston after less than a week after he could not settle in the North West. Signed for Man City today. Didn't realise Manchester was on the south-coast.
was at Preston less than a week. They released him from his contract after he said he could not settle in the north-west and missed his family. Preston said they admired his honesty as he could have sat on the contract and they would have had an unhappy player at the club. Six weeks later he bowls up at City.
