Physical Challenges

edited July 2012 in General Charlton
I ran the London Marathon and also did the London to Brighton cycle ride this year but am now looking for another physical/challenge event to do to raise money for various charities and to push myself to do.Has anyone on here done any events or know of any they could recommend?

My charity run a 115mile Ride Around London if you like cycling:

    http://www.accesssport.org.uk/ride-around-london

There is something for everyone! With cyclists having the choice of tackling either a testing 115 mile route or a challenging 60 mile half route.

The carefully planned route devised by respected tour veteran and sportive organiser Andy Cook will take in some of the best cycling London and the surrounding areas have to offer. Route highlights include starting at Herne Hill Velodrome, climbing up the iconic Box Hill, cycling past Windsor and Eton, through the Chilterns and finishing at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre.

The friendly Access Sport team will be there to help you throughout the entire journey with training advice, fundraising ideas, gear tips and provide full support on the day, whatever it takes to get you "in the saddle" on the day.

So whether your goal is to blast your way to the finish and get a PB, challenge yourself to get fit, meet like-minded people, raise money for this great cause, aspire to be like Olympic cyclist as you climb up legendary zigzaggs of Box Hill, or to experience some of the great British countryside. Then.....this ride is for you!

    This might fit the bill.
  • 3 peak challgene if your had a group of mates to do it with.
  • I've done some of these...http://www.hellrunner.co.uk/

    Was very good
  • A friend of mine has done Man vs Horse - looks like 'fun'!

  • I'd rather do Man vs food.

Give a bit of thought to that if you want to do it. It's very frowned apon in the world of mountaineering.
  • if you can walk up it in trainers, I dont consider it a mountain no matter how high it is.

Oh, alright then, and what trainers would you recommend for doing it in say, november.
  • 'Mount' Snowdon has a railway and a cafe at the top.
Just find it hard to consider these as mountains in the true sense of a mountain.

Not really saying the 3 peaks isn't tough.

Snowdon has "easy" and "hard routes.

If you've ever been there, as I have, when the mist comes from nowhere and you can barely see you wouldn't compare it with strolling up somewhere like Shooters Hill believe me.

I was teasing just a bit Mr OL. My hobby/sport is ultra-light hiking and i do wear trainers albeit you won't find then in JD Sports. THe reason the 3 Peaks is frowned apon is because of the mess the `Three Peakers' leave behind them, also the large number of them that have to be rescued by the MRT's.
  • Thanks for all the ideas guys,I will check a few of them out.But iron man I'm certainly not just mad!!!
