  • When you quote hybrid, is this a bike that produces electricity therefore cycling without effort?
If so, I'm all over that.
  • Same logic as buying a sofa for 5k. What does it do better than a cheaper one?
  • You can get a Wiggo replica for just over a grand

  • Best road shop in the country owned and run by CAFC season ticket holder http://www.in-gearonline.co.uk/ Full bikefitt service free.Hour drive from Charlton[Home after night match] You will get proper advice from lifelong racing cyclist [unlike the 17 year old numpty you may get ? in Halfords]
  • That's your shop Pete? I'm aiming to be in the market for a pair of Zipps (probably 303) next year if money allows, so will be sure to get in touch..

Re: all the others asking what you get for your money...well, more expensive tends to equal lighter and stronger...whether it's worth the avg 40 year old weighing in at 90kgs spending that extra couple of £k to save 1kg in bike weight, when they could just go on a diet is another thing tho..
  • Yeah we stock Zipp,Corima,ENVE,Bontrager etc always best to save 'moving weight' but hey ho boys toys,we often have ex demo wheels [usually only used on my bike for a few months] and will always give CAFC fans a deal especially for cash guvnor....

  • Sussex_pete, you dont happen to stock single Shimano Ultegra shifters, do you? I broke my left one last week. Have sent it back to Shimano under warranty but am preparing myself for the worst that I actually need to buy a new one. Everywhere I've looked (apart from one place), sells them as a pair!

Lol, nice one, no rider in the TDF or any other pro race is using Tiagra gears, they are for the likes of us.

    It is a replica, it's not a Dogma 2 that's for sure!

  • Johnboy Ultegra shifters come with 2 year warranty Madison the importers are spot on with honouring Shimano warranty [unless they are a dodgy grey import ?] There have been lots of probs with those so you should not have a problem..
  • I've got this which is great (Specialized Allez 2012) :

    image

I got it from Geoffrey Butler cycles (http://www.gbcycles.co.uk/) in Croydon which my family has used for generations and they've never put a foot wrong.
You've been done, it's got no pedals! ;-)

Fingers crossed then. My arms and hands really dont like riding an alu framed bike after being used to carbon. Done 110 miles on my day off yesterday and my arms and elbows had a serious case of road buzz when I got back last night.

  • My first road bike was a Specialized Allez. Got the Elite 2010 version, alu frame, carbon forks. Great ride.
I upgraded to a Cube carbon and havent looked back since but spent very nearly £2k.

May be worth you look at the Boardman range of carbon bikes in Halfords. Great bikes, just a shame about the customer service and set up in the store. If you get one, take it to you local bikes shop and get them to look over it first!!!
Am about to upgrade my 2010 Allez. Am seriously interested in the Cube Peloton Race 2012. Can get one for £900. How are you finding the Cube? Any thoughts on the Peloron range? Cant stretch to a Cube agree unfortunately.

I got the Cube Agree Race 2011 and its a fab ride. Full Ultegra, just upgraded to Mavic Kysrium SL Wheels and its goes like the clappers. Smooth, responsive and most importantly as light as anything for climbing. Unfortunately, I broke one of my shifters last weekend, the day before I rode Box Hill with my club, so had to ride the Allez and bloody hell it feels so different.

I havent ridden the Peloton range but its an alu frame with carbon forks job isnt it? Surely that isnt much of an upgrade from an Allez?

If you can hold back a few months, you'll surely be able to pick an agree up in the sales!
Thanks to this discussion I've just upgraded from my hybrid to a Cube Peloton SL.
I've just come back from my first ride and it really is great bike. Thanks for the discussion.

  • A bit of a update , i was all set to go with the Boardman team hybrid then found out there is more than one cycle to work scheme (doh) and Halfords dont participate in my company's scheme , so I've been having a look around and came up with this , any views and comments would be appreciated.

  • I just bought myself a folding bike today,220 pounds from Halfords, fits in my car boot really easily. Can take it on holiday,or into the middle of the country/seaside.
It runs very well for a cheap bike, six gears, job done.
