  • Matthias Svenson?
Beat me to it! Great player to have leading the line at a wet tuesday evening away day when you needed a bit of a bully
  • For me, it has been and always will be Carl Leaburn! Absolutely adored the bloke. Totally agree with John Robinson and Steve Brown, diehards the pair.

Anyone for Simon Webster or Shaun Newton?
  • For the record, Richard Rufus goes waaay beyond 'cult hero'.
  • jorge costa worth a shout
  • I'm gonna stick Eddie Youds into the mixer.

Had a great song as well :)
  • Sad that nobody else has mentioned Garry Nelson.

La la la Barry Endean anyone?
  • Mark Aizlewood called us all cult heroes one valley night didnt he?
  • Lawrie Madden lol
  • Defo LEEAAABBUURRNNNN, Nelse, Stevie Brown, Robbo and Johnny H for starters
  • Harry Gregory was my first cult hero

    Betty of 'Betty's Coach'

    'Dennis is our leader'

    Headphones Norm

  • Harry Gregory & Charlie Wright.
With you there. And few years later Bobby Goldthorpe had quite a following within my group of schoolfriends.
  • Kish for sure..
  • Maybe I am going back too far with thoughts of Bert "Sailor" Brown, Don Walsh and Stuart Leary who played great games along with the Firmani brothers Eddie and Peter. Having been fortunate enough to see the great 7-6 Huddersfield game I will always remember the late great John Summers. My personal idol as a goal keeper was the great Sam Bartram. Another stalwart of the club was Brian Kinsey.
  • Has anyone mentioned Lerog Ambrose?
  • Dick Tydeman
  • Dennis, Selwyn, Vince, Paul Ellis, Paul from Portsmouth, Steve Dixon, Man in Black, Aylesbury Charlton.

On the playing side....I would say Chris Solly.

PS: Is that Micky Quinn in the background of the Aizlewood picture?
  • Dick Plumb
  • Deffo Carl Leaburn and the fella that does the worm everywhere!
  • ...Leroy Ambrose?
  • .....oh, and you gotta have "Big Fat" Peter Garland; probably the least fit footballer I've seen pull on the famous Red shirt!

Actually, that's a bloody good team if Billy is happy to go back to right back.
  • Chris Powell.
  • Dennis Rommedahl
  • haven't read all the thread so I may be doubling up here but I would deffo add Phil Warman great full back, great servant
  • Peter Reeves
  • If you are talking about cult heroes then let's get the meaning of the term right!

When we talk about a cult hero we are talking about someone who achieves hero status for unusual or unconventional reasons, which rules out 99% of names mentioned on this thread.

For CAFC there is only one genuine cult hero in our modern history, that is Carl Leaburn who was beloved by the fans despite the fact that he was a striker who had an appalling goal scoring record.

Despite his record of just 53 goals in 344 games we loved him anyway for how whole hearted effort and occasional brilliance.
