Best Ever Charlton Loan Team

With the sad news of Alan McDonald's death it was suggested that he might be one of our all time best loan players.

That started me thinking; what would be our best loan XI.

GK: Carson

Defence: McDonald, Kernaghan, Costa

Midfield: Jackson, Smertin, Bart-Williams

Forwards: Jeppson

Who have I forgotton?

PS. Keep the worst loan team for another thread please : - )

  • Bartlett started on loan
  • John hendrie from spurs. scored a great winner against millwall. that alone gets him in!
  • Alex Song?
  • Hendrie and Song are great calls.

Don't think we should count Bartlett (good though he was) as it was just a very short loan until he signed perm terms) *if we don't find anyone better might change that : - )
  • Hmm, do they have to play well whilst on loan? If so, Jackson was ok but he became a brilliant signing for us after becoming permanent.

Great minds think alike, we should probably have a stand named after him!
  • Ricky otto would have to be in it for me
  • Based on above qualification - Paul Kitson
  • Ricky otto would have to be in it for me
Did he do very much in that loan spell? I remember his hair and the fact that he had done time but not much else!

Martin Pringle was so exciting on loan. Not so great after he became perm.

Neil Heany for his role in our'98 promotion ?
  • Hendrie and Song are great calls.

Over half a season, while Jackson was here about a month as said.

    This on both counts

  • Yes to Alex Song. Perhaps Zheng Zhi also (first spell)
  • Think it shows that loan players rarely prove a success.
Heaney has to be in that team
  • Lee Power and Matt Jackson were handy at the time. Not sure they'd get in the side though.

Jorge Costa is deffo my top loanee.

You're right. Barlett was on loan a lot longer and Jackson a lot less than I remembered.

  • John MacDonald from Rangers in 1986, he played in three games and I think we won them all?
  • So far:

    GK: Carson

    Defence: McDonald, Kernaghan, Costa, Jackson

Midfield: Song, Smertin, Zheng Zhi, Hendrie

    Forwards: Jeppson, Barlett

Wasn't Danny Mills on loan? Spector wasn't too bad either. I think we had David Whyte on loan as well.

Three good late signings for the Loan Rangers XI
  • Carlton Cole??
  • Carlton Cole??
    21 games, 4 goals

Loved seeing him rip up Sol Campbell at Highbury and Scoring at White Hart Lane.

I would definitely have Song and Smertin in midfield.

  • He was a great prospect
