++++ 2012 EURO Championship Spread Competition - PDF of All Bets on Page 2++++

MOG, Johnnybev, stop reading now !

The EURO 2012 Championship is just around the corner, so time to kick off a new competition to provide a bit of Lifer interest through the coming weeks. Those who have been around a while will know we ran this spread betting competition for the 2010 World Cup, and it’s fair to say explaining the concept to some on here was akin to teaching Jodie Marsh quantum physics. So read on, its not as difficult as first appears.

The Rules

You have an imaginary £500 to place FOUR BETS split accordingly; one each at £200, £150, £100 and £50.

Each nation competing in the EUROs are given a spread rather than fixed odds; points are then awarded to each nation on the basis of how they perform in the tournament.

Points are awarded as follows:

Winner = 100 points
Runner up = 75 points
Beaten Semi finalist = 50 points
Beaten ¼ finalist = 25 points
Third place in Group = 5 points
4th place in Group = 0 points

The way you earn (or lose) your imaginary money is simply by either BUYING the higher spread of a country if you think they are going to score more points (do better) than their spread suggests, or by SELLING the lower spread of a country you think is going to register less points (do worse than the spread suggests). This is the key, you’re looking for four countries you think will do noticeably better or worse than where the spread points indicate they are likely to do.

Each entrant will also be asked how many goals (in normal time) will be scored in the whole competition. This will be used as a decider in the event of a tie.

The Spreads

Group A

Poland.................. 17 – 19
Greece.................. 15 – 17
Russia................... 24 – 26
Czech Republic..... 16 – 18

Group B

Netherlands.......... 36 – 38
Denmark................ 8 – 10
Germany............... 49 – 51
Portugal................ 23 – 25

Group C

Spain..................... 55 – 57
Italy....................... 25 – 27
Ireland.................... 9 – 11
Croatia.................. 16 – 18

Group D

Ukraine................. 16 – 18
Sweden................. 14 – 16
France................... 27 – 29
England................. 29 – 31

EXAMPLES

Portugal have a spread of 23 – 25. If you think they will do better in the tournament and will earn more than 25 points (ie. you think they will get to the semi final at least), then you should BUY PORTUGAL AT 25. If you are confident on this, use your £200 bet. If you think it’s the riskiest out of your four bets, use your £50 bet.

If Portugal go on to win the tournament, they would receive 100pts. By predicting they would score more than 25 points, you ‘win’ on this bet would be 75 points for every pound you staked (100-25=100), If you had used your £200 stake on this then your imaginary return would be £15,000 (75x200=15,000).

Similarly, if you think Portugal will have a bad tournament, then SELL PORTUGAL AT 23. If they finish 4th in their group (23-0=23) and you had used your £200 stake, your imaginary profit on this would be £4,600 (23x200=4600).

Of course, bets can go wrong and potentially make losses. If you use your £200 stake to buy Spain at 57 thinking they will win the tournament, but they finish 4th in Group C, your loss on this bet would be -£11,400 (-57x200=-11,400).

There are no rules on your four bets on how many buys or how many sells you make.

HOW TO ENTER

Your betting slip should be filled out in the following template:

Username: Joe Bloggs
£200 BUY England @ 31
£150 BUY Ireland @ 11
£100 SELL Sweden @ 14
£50 BUY Greece @ 17
Goals in Competition – 72 (had to chase a few for this last time, so don’t forget)

You can either:
1. Click INBOX in the top right corner, send a message to AFKABartram with the above pasted in.

How do you determine where to place each nations specific spread?

For example, why is Netherlands fixed at 36-38 and not 37-39? Is it just based on how likely you believe each nation will do in the tournament in relation to the amount of "points" awarded for each possible finish?
  • They were based on an averaging basis of the odds on offer for each country across a range bookmakers and exchanges a few weeks ago. The spreads won't be changing.

Alright, cheers. I didn't mean to come across as questioning the hard work put in or being pedantic, I just used that as an example because I was curious. Thanks for explaining. :-)
  • No worries callum.

Please post entries in the two ways listed above, not just on this thread. When all entries are in, I'll post them all up
  • Silly question but.......

"points are then awarded to each nation on the basis of how they perform in the tournament."

By points I assume you mean on match results with win=3. draw=1
  • No Lancs, there are no match by match points. Points awarded as follows:

    Winner = 100 points
    Runner up = 75 points
Beaten Semi finalist = 50 points
    Beaten ¼ finalist = 25 points
Third place in Group = 5 points
    4th place in Group = 0 points

  • 1 day to go.....

....and just 35 runners and riders so far.

Don't leave it to the last minute and forget. You've got to be in it to win it, and a signed shirt from our best season in donkeys is a cracking prize.

  • Favourite entry so far has to be @CAFCCrazy, who not only thought his name was Joe Bloggs, but also seems to think he can invent his own spreads. I think quite a few of us would like to buy England @11 !

    Nice one centurion !!
