Apprenticeships

I've been looking for an apprenticeship in either plumbing or electrics and I can't really find anything, I've rung numerous companies out of the yellow pages with no success. I also use a website to apply for a few which is Kentapprenticeships.co.uk I was just wondering if anyone knows any more decent websites where apprenticeship vacancies are advertised, thanks.

    Try Crown House Technologies.
    Based in Dartford.
Give them a call and ask to speak to the Labour Manager. He is Mr Johnson. Bit of a knob but they are looking for September starts now
  • Options
Also try NG Baileys London Branch and Inviron at Gatwick

My sons both did apprenticeships 6 years ago through the jtl.
and they both received a decent mentoring/ apprenticeship
One of my sons was very lucky and got fixed up with Haydn Young, part of the Balfour group, as a plumber and has passed all his 'city and guilds'.
They have really looked after him,and treated him with a very good training course with the training board. The people he works with are both friendly and helped him attain a good working knowledge of his trade. For the building trade he feels very lucky, and loyal to the company.
My other son has been less lucky, but has got qualified as a plasterer, and had worked for a couple of smaller companies. He went self employed at the start of the year, working with three other guys, and although he has had some difficult times, things seem to be going in the right direction. He did work for one of the companies and in 15 years they had never offered a full time job on full pay to a plasterer, ( he knew because he asked the college that he did his qualification at, as he had heard 'rumours' in the trade).
    So my advice try this:
    http://www.balfourbeatty.com/index.asp?pageid=115
You can expect fierce competition, and good luck.
To me the way forward for the country has to be properly run apprenticeships, that are not just cheap labour, and a short fix, that offer true skills and a sustainable job at the end of it.
The country needs to get behind both a decent incentive package for employers,£100 a week grant, preferred bidding status for public contracts, tax breaks, and so forth. And appoint an independent body to evaluate the apprenticeships, with a bonus for apprenticeships/and employers who stay at the company/scheme, or group more than 5 years, so that they are sustainable and value to the tax payers. With mass youth employment, the UK need's to make this a top priority.

Keep on trying Greenie..... my son applied with 2000 others and they took on 3 that year, he almost did not bother going to the interview, as he had got a temp job working for Iron mountain, and they wanted him to stay. Unlike myself he must come over well at an interview.
Leave a message, ask for there name, and say you will call back tommorow, be polite, as it may well be someone in the office that they work with, and let's face it you are asking them to do you a favour..... good luck anyway mate.....

A friend of mine went through JTL a few years ago he got an apprenticeship with a company who does the plumbing and electrics at the home office hes been there a couple of years now. He did say that it took a while for the offers to start coming in through JTL but once your on their system the offers came thick and fast.

These are the electrical companies that will use JTL (JIB Training Ltd) as mentioned above. Give each one a call and also send a CV along. You will have to be quick though as companies will be looking to have apprentices in place for the end of June.

    Kent based JIB Companies

    London JIB Companies
