  • Good for Sheffield Wednesday, they deserve to be 2nd!
  • I really couldn't care less.

  • If I cared less I wouldn't post on this thread!
  • Just seen their trophy....WOW!!!
  • They should have given the team a polite clap and then rushed off home to watch the cup final.
  • I wonder if half the crowd left before Dave Jones made his speech?
  • To be fair we've had months and months to get used to going up, for them it happened more suddenly so I guess there'd be more euphoria...getting a trophy for coming second is pathetic mind you !

  • Compared to theirs, our trophy is MASSIVE. Have they given us the wrong one by mistake?
  • Did the league find that trophy in a car boot sale. Mind you, as has been said- how do you get any sort of trophy for coming second? I can understand the play-offs because it is in a way a new tournament.
  • Let them have their moment.

    We partied for 3 weeks:

    April 14 - Promotion
    April 21 -CHAMPIONS!
    May 5 - 100 points

  • I can't see people's problems. They got promoted which was thier aim. It was also ours and we first celebrated getting promotion.
  • My head still hurts from 3 weeks of non stop celebrating. I can't be dealing with this level of obtuseness
  • but a trophy for coming second. What next, medals for relegation followed by an open top bus tour and civic reception?
  • Doesn't look like 20,000
Depends how many drinks you've had or perhaps they see double up north or don't go to specsavers
  • Take a look at the thread covering it on Owlstalk, lol, it will cheer you up if you are having a bad day, they really are up themselves

Can't help but feel a bit happy for them to be honest. I've spent most of the football season browsing CL (but not posting) as well as seeing what other teams have to say, and naturally Owlstalk provided me with lots of entertainment! (ohhhh The Megson Affair!) That said, fair play for them managing to pull their finger out and close in on 2nd.

I think there will only be one Sheffield team in the Championship next year!

Some good photos of it on there. I did notice that they have quite a **ahem** mixture of fans though; can't help but wonder whether that Admin chap was purposely taking photos of complete nutters and oddballs... Certainly wasn't any talent either; so no "Would Ya" dilemmas!
  • strange, this club has in recent years won the league cup and made finals and semis

  • They got a trophy for finishing second - so what? It's not a trophy to celebrate finishing second, it is a trophy to celebrate promotion. The fact that we came 1st and they came 2nd doesn't really make much difference in the grand scheme of things.

If we had finished second and had a celebration and a trophy, we would rightfully be lapping it up!
  • Yeah, but we won the Peoples Cup, they were nowhere.

Chris Solly was 2 the last time they were in a major cup final...
  • Brian Moore won a runners up medal in the rugby world cup in the 90s.

He threw it in the Thames because it was reminding him that he was not a winner. I wonder if the Massives got individual medals too.

Winners aren't satisfied with second best. Just seems strange to get a runners up cup but it's history now.

Brian Moore won nothing but that medal. Wendies won promotion. Why do people not see why this is worthy of celebration?

They also did it by coming up on the rails against their biggest rivals in dramatic fashion. Had we done this against one of the little south London clubs, we would also be cock a hoop.

Maybe they will start having medals in the Olympics for those that come second and third!

Not got a problem with them celebrating.
  • I'm with Greenie on this one.

they are not celebrating finishing 2nd, simply getting out of this league. i would be outside Woolwich town hall if we had decided to do the same.

Definitely this. Not a massive fan of south yorkshires 3rd best team, but good for their fans. They care enough to get wet to celebrate promotion. Mind you I believe you have to quite like getting wet to live in this part of the country.
  • To be fair, I've been getting accusations that our celebrations were a bit OTT for League One from mates at work throughout the week. If you enjoy it then there is nothing wrong with it.
  • I wonder if half the crowd left before Dave Jones made his speech?
What a brilliant comment, pretty sure SCP made a speech after the Wycombe game and the Hartlepool game, heard the one after the Wycombe game so sod the Hartlepool speech!
  • Supporters around the country and beyond will have seen the fantastic scenes from the Town Hall in Sheffield this week when the Owls were presented with the League 1 runners-up trophy.

Now the club are offering fans the chance to get close up and personal with the silverware this Saturday, 12 May.

The trophy will be in the Owls Megastore between 10.00am and 4.00pm and YOU can have your photograph taken with the cup to mark Wednesday's automatic promotion to the Championship.
For just £15, you will have your picture taken before receiving a full colour print measuring 10" x 8" in a commemorative mount sent to your home address.

This is a terrific opportunity to be pictured with the very latest addition to the SWFC trophy cabinet, so visit the Megastore to secure your own memento of a truly memorable 2011-12 campaign!

-Reckon Steve Jones is behind this as well?
