i like waggy, he has a lot of heart and thorough charlton. my gripe is that i think he's just playing in the wrong position on the right wing. personally i reckon he'd be more suited to playing the euell role from the prem days.
I think Waggy, BWP and Haynes will all be important players for us next year. We can expect to be under more pressure in our own half and pace on the break will be key
I never thought John Robinson was good enough for the Championship, let alone the Premier League when he first played for us.
Mike Flanagan looked pretty ineffective when he first played for us - indeed I remember a shot he had which hit the corner flag.
Fortunately you and I don't get to choose. Lets leave it to the expert - SCP to make that judgement.
What I do know is that Waggy is Charlton to the core, he is a first class lad, and he always tries his best. Lets big him up, not find reasons to knock him down.
Fortunately for our club, it will be left to others to decide who will - or will not - make it at a higher level.
I understand that a few on this forum will want to spend the next few months trying to second-guess the transfers in and out, the possible line-ups and even the kit and sponsors details, when perhaps even the management don't know all the answers yet. Whilst a forum like this allows us to voice an opinion, it should be kept as an opinion and not the basis of a Monty Python-esque argument. "Wait and see" may be the logical approach but I understand that some cannot seem to enjoy the relative success of the last season, but instead worry themselves that it is all going to end in tears.
Have no doubt some of the players who are tipped to struggle next season (Waggy, Green, BWP to name three) will suprise a few, hopefully Waggy is one of them. He has some excellent attributes, especially pace and work rate which gives him a great chance of stepping up, maybe he will struggle but it won't be because of a lack of effort.
Trust Powell's judgement either way, also would not write off Green so easily.
positives: energy, pace, charlton heart, known to score a goal or two, links up well w/solly weaknesses: raw, impatient, fades from games (perhaps down to poor positioning)
i think waggy can push for a spot in our championship side. if not a starting spot, then he would keep the outside mid position competitive amongst the squad week in and week out of training. one thing you can always count on is that waggy will always give 110% charlton red...
Surely it's time for someone to start a thread slagging off Yann?:-) We have barely finished one of the most successful seasons in living memory so let's enjoy it and leave it to CP and his staff to decide.
Scott Sinclair looked very tame in his time in the championship until he went to Swansea and is now pulling up trees in the premier league. If you have bags of pace and energy and score goals, they're good building blocks to start with.
hes a player who winds me up no end and in the same game i'll love him to bits
but what is not in doubt is his enthusiasm and zest for the game , long may that continue
I read the whole thread and right near the bottom, someone has stolen my opinion. :-)
At the start of the season I was annoyed at the way he'd (unconvincingly) throw himself to the floor and spend the next 10 mins crying to the ref. I'll assume that Powell has had words about this to him, as he seems to have sorted this out to an extent. Don't think he's blessed with pace so much (but he's no slouch) It's more that he's got a great engine and can keep it up for 90 mins.
Thanks for the support mid life crisis. On both my threads.
What other one, the one where you slag off the playing of the red red robin, or the one where you bemoan our defence - just at the start of the season where we conceded the fewest goals ever by anyone?
If you're not just a troll on the wind up then how about coming up with something a bit more insightful than "scotty not so hotty" then people might take you a bit more seriously.

As for Yann, we all know he can't hack it in the championship as we saw at Leicester. Sell now! (joke!!!!!!!!)

Now, now Offy play nice. Where's the faith in human nature that you pulled me up for when I called out (yet another) troll the other day? B-)

Waggy's weaknesses are more obvious than Green's with him being nothing like a typical winger. He's always learnt and improved though, nearly released at 15/16, mis-used by Pardew, written off by fans at various times in his career so far (I had doubts myself that he'd even make it in League 1 with us until got the chance to show what he really was about)
Big step up and clearly does need to improve but hopefully he will continue to prove people wrong next season.

The biggest factors will be the performances of Haynes and Green, and how their qualities match up against Championship opposition.
I personally think Danny Green will surprise a few people next year.
