Well - read with interest "Who Won Money" and the chap that put on 50 pounds. I can now advise that on June 27th 2011 I placed two bets with Corals; one Charlton to be "Outright Winner" of the league at odds of 12 to 1 - my bet was 2000 pounds. The second bet was "For Promotion" at odds of 4 to 1- my bet was 500 pounds.
So total stake of some 2500 pounds. (I believe I had a serious rush of blood to the head - never done anything like this before - nomally it just a fiver each way on the Grand National)
So I have just cashed a cheque from Coral's for the amount of 28,500 pounds, this being winning of 26,000 pounds, plus my stake money back of 2500 pounds.
Foot note: Just to let you know Ladbrookes odds for us in the Championship next year were last week "Outright Winner" 25 -1 and "For Promotion" 8 - 1. (He who Dares - Rodders!)

Congratulations on your win. Spend it wisely...on sex, drugs and rock n roll.
Quick question though - why when you were in with a chance of winning nearly £30k on us didn't you bother mentioning it on here before or in particular on one of the several betting threads or in fact joining CL until after the season finished?
Good point - only came across CL in past few weeks. But also some times its best to keep things to onself until the Fat Lady Sings, so to speak.
I will confide at this stage however that I have already made a small wager on next season.
I am a pensioner on fixed State Pension - in time of recessions! guess who needs the money more, and what was behind my gamble and going for it just once in my life!
Was there a need to massage your ego on your own dedicated thread?
Mind you as they say it takes all sorts.
But offer my vey best wishes to you all, as Chatrlton supporters, none the same
Here hoping the "The Addicks" carry on the same form next year.
Why should the fella have to join up here and tell everyone before the bet came in?
Just be happy for the bloke - well done mate!
Naturally I and a few others are a bit suspicious of posters just appearing at this stage of the season, ignoring the other betting threads (that they self evidentally were aware off) and then their first post is to the effect that they were courageous enough to stick £2500 on us pre-season i.e. topping the posters in the other threads. Don't you find it a bit strange that with that amount riding on it that Peter didn't show up before now? This site is the best known forum for CAFC fans after all.
Now, if it turns out that Peter is genuine and has had such a massive win on us I am genuinely happy for the guy and he has my fulsome apologies for doubting him in any way. I expect we'll find out in due course but if he turns out to be another attention seeker will you offer the same to those of us who have our doubts?
Just seems so unrealistic that he signed up yesterday and his first post is I won twenty odd grand. WUM
Who even cares if he's a troll? If he is, what exactly is he gaining in pretending to win money and what are you losing in believing him?
Gratz on the money Peter01
Sorry, I know I should share your faith in human nature and not get bothered but I am utterly sick of the WUM merchants and trolls we are attracting on here at the moment, when we should be free to enjoy what has been a fantastic season and looking forward with optimism. Whether Peter is one or not I just don't get 'em!
Well here we are as Champions of League 1 this year - sincere congratulations to Chis Powell, players and all at the club.
Proud Charlton - back in the right direction.
With my feet firmly on the ground and my head not in the clouds I honestly believe that we as a club have a very good opportunity and to be confident that good things are in store over the coming 3 seasons, which will take in the 4/5 years. Plus, we will not revert back to whence we just came.
Since my first article “Who Won Money 2”, there have on CL being various responses with differences of opinions on my motives. Therefore, I take the oppotunity to mention a little of what was behind this, it was based on to main consideration's. Let me state now I have never ever done anything like this before, like most it been a few quid a week on the Lotto, sometimes doing the football pools and the odd fiver each way on the Grand National. Plus I have 25 pounds of Premium bonds that I bought in 1836!
Like many (proffer most of us rank & file) that of late owing to the economic situation we have all had to tighten our belts.
Secondly, I listened in early June last year to a couple of lengthy interviews on Player given by our new Chairman Mr. Slater, and was very impressed. Plus, interviews with Chris Powell and some of the early signings that we had made.
I contemplated making a bet over a three week period and was nervous at laying out what for me was a considerable sum. So In the end I said to myself in the morning with the first cup of coffee of the day I will make the decision - this was on June 27th. Next day with coffee in hand I sat peering out of the window when a voice said the me "Sod It - Go
for It! - (He who Dares Rodders!)" The rest as they say is now history.
I would now like to share a few things with you regarding my support for Charlton and my involvement with the club.
A quick mention first as a throw in thought. When I was about 18 or so I had a trial at the Valley which was a one off day trial for any would young players to enroll and try there luck, bit of a nonsense if the truth be known - but on the day after waiting around for some while went on the pitch in a left wing position and got about 15 minutes worth. Was, as was most others, not invited back - But in that 15 minute cameo appearance we had a corner, I positioned myself just outside the penalty spot, South Stand (then Jimmy Seed stand) end of the ground, over came the corner and I caught it on the full volley(I do believe I had my eyes shut!) and it flew into to top right hand corner of the goal - there was an immediate round off applause from the old (West) stand. That as you may appreciate will live with me till I am pushing up daisies.
When the new North Stand was to be built I owned my own Security Company that dealt with mainly CCTV, Alarms & Access Control Systems. Via a contact in the industry I heard tenders were out for upgrading the CCTV System at The Valley, and to meet the FA specification requirements and to take in additional cameras for the New North Stand. Via my contact I was introduced to Richard Murray who in turn put me in touch with Mick Everett. As it is about security at the club I cannot mention much detail, but I won the tender against other companies. The order was the largest my company ever won. Can you imagine as a life long supporter what this meant to me. A labour of love.
My design of the new layout of the Control Room under John Little's stewardship was a key factor for my company obtaining the business and it still in existence to this day. Plus we had to run new camera cables from the control room to the new North stand and other parts of the Valley. I have climbed all over the Valley lining up cameras that included a new camera that is accessed via a trap door on top of the new north stand. I can assure you it very high and windy up there, and at all times I/we wore safety harnesses.
At around that time my company sponsored a Charlton Golf Day at the London Golf Club, off the M20. When I arrived in the foyer there were some of the marketing ladies with a display of various pieces of football memorabilia that included a signed Man Utd shirt etc etc, plus at centre stage was a framed signed Chris Powell England shirt! I asked the ladies how they got the shirt. They advised when you play for England you are given two shirts, one in case you swap at the end of the game and the other you keep yourself. The ladies mentioned to Chris that at the golf day in the evening after the meal they had arranged a 'sports memorabilia" auction in aid of the Ability Sports" Charity that runs sports functions for specific disabled youth sports. With this Chris donated his shirts and signed it. I remember asking did the board know of the shirt, and the ladies answered "No why!'
As for the golf I had a total disaster which culminated on the 15 hole over water, a small pond, which I put five balls straight in the middle of! So I ran out of balls and walked the last three holes without playing. I remember watching Curbs shot into the the 18 green and then is two puts. I said to Curbs how did you get on, he said something like ' I had a good first shot off the first tee and a good shot and into the eighteenth, apart from that not to good" I replied "sounds like the same as me apart from the two good shots on the 1st and 18th hole!'s!"
After diner the auction began, I had a little bit to drink, and then came the last item Chris Powell's shirt. The bidding was keen and on the high side - but I had said to myself I'm having that and put in the top bid. My accountant a little later did ask me what it was for and told him not to worry! A few days later I phoned the marketing ladies and made a appointment to go and meet them at the then temporary offices in Bexleyheath, telling them that I would loan the shirt to the club. I met with one of the ladies and Steve Sutherland carrying in the shirt in the frame. He asked me what was it - not knowing, and I explained all to him. Plus, then said look I am not going to, loan it to the club but to donated it to the club as a gesture, and for me it should be on permanent display at The Valley. A few weeks later Steve rung to ask if at the next home game v Leeds United I would go onto to the pitch and to formally donate it to the club with Chris Powell, wow!
So that is what happened. Note”: in the following home match programme v Leicester City was an article on the funds that were raised for Ability Sports and that I/my company had donated the shirt to the club, plus with a photo of me shaking Chris Powells hand. To date, the shirt is still on display in the board room area of the Valley - am I proud or what!
Well, I was to try and make it for the Hartlepool game but personal circumstance's prevented this, so hers looking forward to another successful campaign next season in "The Championship".
I trust this now answers some doiubts amongst of few on my intentions.
Best wishes to all.
